Landmark Park extends hours
Landmark Park will offer special extended hours throughout the months of June and July. The park will remain open each Friday until 8 p.m. for visitors to enjoy the cooler hours of the late afternoon and early evening. Free wagon rides will be offered from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Enjoy old-fashioned games at Westville
On June 14, Westville will be alive with activity — hoops rolling, sack jumping, picking up sticks, shooting marbles, log wrestling and pitching shoes. The Kiser House Restaurant will be open and the museum store offers the chance to shop for souvenirs or pick up a unique gift. Westville is located in Lumpkin, just 35 miles south of Columbus, Ga., off U.S. Highway 27. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Kick up your heels in dance contest
A ballroom competition with a Dancing Under the Stars format will be Sept. 6 with prizes for the top three winners. Classes begin June 12 at the Cultural Arts Center, 909 S. Country bands invited to audition for movie
Off The Cuff Productions, a movie company based in Orlando, Fla., will hold auditions for country music bands June 12, 13 and 14 from 2-7 p.m. at the Ceneplex in Blakely, Ga. Drums and a keyboard will be available. The company plans to film two family-friendly movies later this year, possibly in Blakely. For more information, call (478) 954-5078.
Storytelling begins at Landmark Park
Preschool age children are invited to Landmark Park this summer on Tuesdays beginning at 10 a.m. for “Animal Tales,” presented with theatrical flair. Traveling pet exhibit opens in Tallahassee
Tallahassee hosts the first southeast stop of the national traveling exhibit, Pets in America, a showcase of more than 200 objects from antique collars and vintage food packaging to early medical equipment at the Museum of Florida History June 20 through Aug. 10. The exhibit tells the story of Americans’ changing relationships with their pets and includes a large selection of photographs of well-known people such as Helen Keller with pets. The 10th annual Georgia Literary Festival will be Oct. 25 in Bainbridge. This is the first time the event has moved to south Georgia.
