The 21st annual Slocomb Tomato Festival will be Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Slocomb Recreational Park. A parade in downtown begins at 10 a.m. Entertainment begins at 12:30 p.m. with Shane Owens, The Springs, Pure & Simple and The Legends. Tickets are $5 for ages 13 and up; $4 for kindergarten to age 12; and free for nonschool-age children.

The second annual Wiregrass Blueberry Growers Association Festival will be held Saturday, June 20, around the town square in Headland from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Local growers will have fresh berries, berry products and blueberry plants for sale. Pageant, baby crawl, pedal tractor pull, blueberry pie eating contest, recipe contest and carriage rides among events. Extension Service agents will on hand to talk about blueberry production for interested potential growers.

ART
Mural Tours held each Saturday during June beginning at 10 a.m. Tours are free, last about one hour and begin at the Salute to the Peanut Industry mural located in the parking lot of the Dothan Civic Center. A guide will lead you around downtown to 15 different murals. For information, call Christy Elmore at the Dothan Area Visitors Center.

THEATER
The Featured Players Theatre, 137 N. St. Andrews St., Dothan, presents the children’s production “Jack and the Beanstalk” on June 20 and June 27. The 2009 Tallahassee Model Railroad Show and Sale hosted by the Big Bend Model Railroad Association will be Saturday, June 20, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the North Florida Fairgrounds, building 4. Different operating layouts — N, HO, O-27 and large scale — will be featured. Local and out-of-town vendors. Free parking. Admission is $5 for adults and children 13 and older. Children 12 and younger admitted free.

MUSIC
Sisters in Song — an ensemble of 12 educators from Dothan City and Houston County schools — will perform Saturday at 10 a.m. in Poplar Head Park in downtown Dothan during the Poplar Head Farmers Market. The market is open 8 a.m. to noon. and also features free agricultural art activities for children.

The Moonlighters, Dothan’s own big band, will perform at Landmark Park on June 25 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Music by Moonlight summer concert series. Concerts are held in the park’s gazebo. Bring a blanket, lawn chairs and picnic supper. Free admission. Martin Drugstore and Shelley General Store will be open during the concerts. Landmark Park will host its annual Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social on June 27 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in observance of National Dairy Month. The event is sponsored by WOOF Radio and Dairy Fresh. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 4-15 and free for members and children 3 and under.

DANCE
Patti Rutland Jazz Company will perform “Reunion” June 27-29 at the Dothan Opera House, featuring dance pieces the company has done over its 25-year history. Show also includes two new numbers. Show times are 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and Monday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $10 for students, $15 for adults and are available at the Dothan Civic Center box office or online at http://www.dothan.org. Senior citizens and students can attend the Sunday show at no charge if they donate two cans of food for the Evergreen Presbyterian Church food closet.

Renaissance Headland and the Tri-State Community Orchestra will hold the third annual Patriotic Concert on the square in Headland on Thursday, July 2, at 7:30 p.m. Performance will also feature the Headland High Community Band and local church choir members. Free admission.

The Honorable Roy S. Moore is married to Kayla, and they have four children: Heather, Ory, Caleb, and Micah. He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point with a bachelor of science degree in 1969 and completed his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1977. Captain Roy Moore served in the U.S. Army as a company commander with the Military Police Corp in Vietnam. During his professional career, he became the first full-time Deputy District Attorney in Etowah County and served in this position from 1977 until 1982. In 1984, Chief Justice Moore undertook private practice of law in Gadsden. He became a judge of the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit of Alabama in 1992, and served until his election as chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court in 2000. In 2003, Chief Justice Moore was removed from his position for standing up for the inalienable right to acknowledge God. The former chief justice lectures throughout the United States, teaching about America’s history and our right to acknowledge God, and he serves as the chairman of the Foundation for Moral Law in Montgomery, Alabama.
 

Chief Justice Moore has authored “So Help Me God,“ as well as numerous publications, including “Religion in the Public Square,” published by Cumberland Law Review, Cumberland School of Law, Volume 29, No. 2, 1998-1999, “Putting God Back in the Public Square,” Imprimis, Hillsdale College, Volume 28, No. 8, August, 1999, “Courts Out of Control: Understanding the Rule of Law in America,” Liberty Forum, Institute on the Constitution, Volume 2, Issue 2, Spring 2006, and Our Legal Heritage.
