Ashford man faces felony weapons, assault charges
Houston County Sheriff’s Capt. Antonio Gonzalez said investigators arrested Jimmy Ray Shelley, 49, of Cosby Road, and charged him with felony domestic violence and felony possession of a sawed off shotgun. He said deputies were called to the Ashford home as backup after a 911 call was placed to the Ashford Police Department for a domestic dispute. He said the 911 call went out around 8:45 p.m. Saturday.
“He tried to use a tractor to remove the burglary bars off of the window,” Gonzalez said. “He was armed, the SRT (Special Response Team) was called and they apprehended him. No shots were fired.”
According to court records, investigators charged Shelley with striking Rebecca Ann Shelley with his hand, fists and a Colt 9mm semi-automatic handgun in the face, head, arms and feet. Gonzalez said the woman did not go to a hospital, and she refused medical treatment.
Gonzalez said it was unclear whether any damage was caused to the home.
Shelley was being held in the Houston County Jail without bond, which was set by Circuit Court Judge Brad Mendheim. Shelley faces two to 20 years in prison if convicted of the class B felony second-degree domestic violence assault charge, and one to 10 years in prison if convicted of the class C felony firearms charge.
