Henry County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a 21-year-old Headland man and charged him with manslaughter in the death of his 19-year-old girlfriend.

Henry/Houston County District Attorney Doug Valeska said Anthony Mitchell Money, 21, was charged in the death of Mary Deanna Curry, which occurred on Oct. 17, 2006. Curry died from injuries she suffered when she was struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Henry County roads 53 and 12 in Headland around 12:05 a.m.

“He’s charged with engaging in a physical struggle and then failing to remove her from the path of oncoming traffic,” Valeska said.

Valeska said the pair had been traveling in a vehicle when an altercation occurred. Valeska said Money has been charged with recklessly causing her death by failure to remove her from the path of an oncoming car.

Valeska said the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and the Alabama State Troopers investigated the fatality.

Money was taken to the Henry County Jail and held on a $10,000 bond for the manslaughter charge. If convicted, Money faces two to 20 years in prison for the class B felony crime.

Money was previously arrested in April on a grand jury indictment that charged him with felony second-degree burglary. Valeska said Money was charged with felony second-degree burglary of a Headland residence, during which a 13-year-old girl was sexually abused.

I have always heard the phrase that the wheels of justice turn slowly, But it has almost been 3 yrs since this tragedy that took the life of a smart, beautiful young lady.  And one who is familiar with all involved has to wonder if it took so long to get the charge was because the accused is the ‘Godson” of the Sheriff of Henry County and the first investigator it is rumored was a cousin of the accused! Did it take so long because the ones in higher places ran out of ways to keep it covered? HHMMMMMM…..

Having spent 95% of my time with “Dee” I need to address ‘Hatemornin’. Due to the fact that we talked of this often. “Dee” had only one brother. She had a half-brother and a step-brother but only one person she referred to as her “Brother” And a mother and step-father who loved her more than life. But the one thing that you are correct aboutis the fact that maybe her family and extended family will see justice done and get the closure that is needed so desperately.

Mary or Dee as we called her, had family that loved her, a father, 3 brothers and a stepmother. These people along with her mother and grandparent deserve some closure to this mess. May justice finally be done!!!

Too bad he wasn’t employed by the Houston County Sheriff.  If he was he’d get off with a one day suspension.

You are exactly right it won’t bring her back in response to the jdanner comment, but I personally know the whole story between the both and I’m not judging just stating the facts and what if it was your daughter. Everyone makes mistakes but this mistake cost a life a mothers child so think about.

I agree! We are all responsible for self. We don’t always get all the details of these situations & until we do we aren’t the judge. I do beleive in justice, however we can’t blame another when we don’t know the over all picture. Our world is so ready to lay the blame on the other party period. Remember we are all someones child. Think about it! It won’t bring the other person back. Who is to know who to blame until we have all the facts. Think before we speak or judge another!

Well its about time that this young man is finally going to have to answer for what he has done. I know that the family has struggled with the lose of there child. The mother of Mary D Curry has lost her only daughter due to the negligence of him and lives everyday knowing that her child will never return. I hope the parent and the grandparents of Mary D Curry will finally have closure to thier daughters death. May god bless the family. I have known this family personally for many years and no one deserves for there loved one to have to endure such tragedy for a family. We all might have our differences but no one deserves this. May prayers are with all who are involved in this case may justice be served on those who are wrong. countylaw26

Compare this case to the manslaughter case on Headland youth and tell me how our justice system is working fairly and how can the word JUSTICE even be used?????  No comparison in these two manslaughter cases and I cannot make any sense out of it.  What is our world coming to?
