Madrid wheelchair bound man convicted of drug distribution

A Geneva County jury convicted a wheelchair bound Madrid man Tuesday of distribution of crack cocaine.

Geneva County Assistant District Attorney Stephen Smith said Jonah “Moonie” Daniels Jr., 35, was found guilty of the distribution of a controlled substance.

Daniels was arrested March 22, 2007, and charged with felony distribution of a controlled substance. He was convicted of selling an “8 ball” of crack cocaine worth $250 to an informant of the Geneva County Drug Task Force on Oct. 3, 2006, according to the Geneva County District Attorney’s Office.

Smith said the undercover purchase happened in Malvern and evidence in the case included an audio recording. Smith said Daniels testified he’d given the informant crack cocaine, but he’d never sold it.

Judge P. B. McLaughlin, Jr. increased Daniels’ bond from $5,000 to $25,000 after the verdict, and he remains in jail at this time, pending his sentencing hearing. Daniels faces between two and 20 years behind bars for the conviction, a class B felony. 

Daniels was previously convicted in Houston County for felony chemical endangerment of a child and felony possession of a controlled substance.
