Cloverdale Elementary School receives grant
Published: May 11, 2009
Cloverdale Elementary School will soon receive a United Health HEROES grant, administered by Youth Service America and funded by United Health Care. The grant will allow Cloverdale students and staff to address childhood obesity in the community, implementing unique service projects that engage community partners, public officials, the media and youth of all abilities.
Cloverdale’s iFit proposal was accepted as part of the largest service event in the world, Global Youth Service Day 2009. GYSD mobilizes youth to identify and address the needs of their communities through service, supports youth on a lifelong path of service and civic engagement, and educates the public about the contributions of young people as leaders. The iFit proposal includes several unique activities: healthy eating challenge held in the school, physical fitness training and testing, student-produced podcasts containing Small Changes for Big Results to be broadcast at http://www.cloverdalerocks.com, a student made brochure to be placed in pediatric waiting areas and passed out to students, and student-led lesson plans to be delivered to students in lower grade levels by LinC enrichment students.
