An automobile accident Saturday morning in Jackson County, Fla., claimed the life of an Arkansas woman who appeared to lose control of her vehicle after spilling a beverage while driving.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, Barbara Duran of Charleston, Ark., was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident that occurred on Interstate 10, four miles east of State Road 71. Passenger James Duran, 65, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

The report states Barbara Duran was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer and lost control of the vehicle after spilling a beverage on herself. That caused the vehicle to drift off the road. In an attempt to regain control of the vehicle, she apparently overcorrected, causing the vehicle to spin and then overturn several times. Both people were wearing seatbelts.
