WHAT: Dothan City Commission
WHEN: 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 30
WHERE: Commission Chambers, second floor of Municipal Building on N. St. Andrews St.

— Public hearing on the abatement and removal of noxious or dangerous weeds.

— Declaring that 400 E. Newton St. is no longer needed for municipal purposes and conveying said property to the Dothan Downtown Redevelopment Authority.

— Declaring certain properties which are overgrown with weeds, scrub, wild bushes, grass and other vegetable growth and are injurious to the health, safety and welfare of the community as nuisances and ordering that the properties be abated.

— Approving the application of the Institutional Investments Corporation and granting abatement of all local non-educational property taxes and all city construction related transaction taxes except those for educational purposes or capital improvements for education. This is the Publix development called Cottonwood Corners.

— Approving a change order No. 1 to the contract with Air Conditioning Associates for the upgrade to the HVAC system at the Civic Center/Roy Driggers Complex in the amount of $67,067, increasing the total contract amount to $1,467,067.

— Approving change order No. 1 to the contract with Air Conditioning Associates for the upgrade to the HVAC system at Dothan Utilities Complex in the amount of $73,515 increasing the total contract amount to $617,165.

— Applying for and accepting a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance in the amount of $56,599 – $48,109 for the City of Dothan and $8,489 for Houston County, for the purchase of mobile data terminals and agreeing to pay approximately $2,253 for equipment costs above the city’s portion of the grant utilizing seizure funds.

— Applying for and accepting a grant from the 2009 Bureau of Justice Assistance Bulletproof Vest Partnership in the amount of $7,410 to purchase body armor and agreeing to fund the city’s matching portion in the amount of $7,410.

— Applying for and accepting a grant from the Wiregrass Foundation in the amount of $5,000 to fund catering and one speaker for the Annual Diabetes Prevention and Wellness Workshop.

— Rescinding resolution no. 2009-93 and entering into an agreement with Waste Away Group, Inc. whereby the company will, at its sole expense, provide a new scoreboard for Rip Hewes Stadium in return for the right to advertise on the scoreboard.

— Approving change order no. 1 to the agreement with Slingluff Construction Company for the Renovation of the Mixson Business Center in the amount of $3,777 increasing the total contract amount to $78,520.

— Entering into a contract with CDG Engineers and Associates for the engineering design services for the Fortner Street Widening and Intersection Improvements from Honeysuckle Road to the Ross Clark Circle at a cost plus-not to exceed fee of $220,000.

— Awarding the bid, entering into a contract and issuing a notice to proceed to Lewis Inc. for the construction of the Fortner Street widening and intersection improvement project in the amount of $2,420,581.

— Entering into an agreement with Interstate Properties, LLC for installation and maintenance of water meters at Dothan Village Development located at 2401 E. Main St.

— Entering into an agreement with the Alabama Department of Transportation for the installation of water main on the south side of U.S. Highway 92 in Wicksburg.

— Awarding a bid received by the city.

— Approving advance travel requests for city employees.

— Acceptance of an easement from Pamela McCoy needed for improvements to electrical utility facilities.

— Acceptance of an easement from Archibald Soloman and Tracy Soloman needed for improvements to electrical facilities at Fortner Street Roadway Widening Project.

WHAT: Administrative meeting
WHEN: Immediately following the regular meeting

1. It is recommended that Wallace Cooley be re-appointed to serve as District 5 representative on the Dothan Municipal Housing Code Abatement Board.  His current term expired Nov. 16, 2008.

2. A request from the Police Department to conduct a Forensic Training Course to be held Dec. 6-11, 2009.

3. A discussion of a city/county road swap.
4. Privileges of the floor.
