Fay’s path still at ‘high degree of uncertainty’

Wiregrass residents need to keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.

That’s because the storm, which was projected to make landfall just south of Naples, Fla., this morning, could go in nearly any direction once it finally reaches the mainland.

“It’s still expected to move westward, but will it be straight west or northwest is still uncertain, and that could impact Dothan,” said Ron Block, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, Fla. “There are a couple of models that do show it moving southwest toward the Gulf of Mexico. There’s still a high level of uncertainty heading into the weekend.”

As of 9 p.m. Monday, the storm was expected to move northeast into Jacksonville, Fla., before turning westward and ending up in Alabama by 4 p.m. Saturday.

“By time it gets to your general vicinity, sometime on the afternoon in Saturday, it could be generating heavy rain, but the winds associated with the storm should be over. There will be some gusts, but nothing you can’t handle,” Block said.

Block does advise Dothan residents to keep an eye on the latest projections, as they could change significantly in the coming days.
