Ronnie Gilley’s venture into entertainment in Houston County may be expanding, but the local developer says Country Crossing remains unchanged.

Gilley said Thursday he has placed a binder on the property where Dothan National Golf Club and Resort is located. The land exists along Highway 231 South, about a mile north of where Gilley plans to build the Country Crossing entertainment resort. Gilley said initial plans are to construct “something entertainment-related” on the property, but declined to comment further on the plans for the land. He said he hopes to announce detailed plans within 60 days.

A binder secures the right to purchase real estate upon agreed terms for a limited period of time.

“We have (the property) under contract and we are performing feasibility studies,” Gilley said.

Gilley said the entertainment-related property would not be related to Country Crossing.

“The site for Country Crossing will not change. Country Crossing is still on schedule and is moving full-speed ahead,” Gilley added.

The property includes a hotel and an 18-hole golf course that plays as long as 7,400 yards from the back tees. The course was built in 1968 by Bob Simmons. The site was formerly known as the Admiral Benbow Olympia Spa and Resort. It also includes a lighted driving range and practice green along with a heated mineral pool.
