Man hospitalized in collision with 18-wheeler

A man was hospitalized Tuesday night after his car ran into a tractor-trailer on U.S. 84 East.
When rescue workers arrived at the scene, the Honda Civic was pinned underneath the truck’s trailer. Despite that, the driver of the Civic was alert after the wreck and is currently in stable condition at Flowers Hospital, according to Cpl. Jimmy Helms of the Alabama State Troopers.
According to Helms, the incident is still under investigation, but initial indications are that the truck driver was at fault.
“It does appear the cause of accident was failure to yield right of way,” Helms said.
The truck driver saw the situation differently.
“I was coming out of here, and he hit me from the side,” said Willie Scott, the driver of the truck. “I seen him coming. I was trying to get over, but I couldn’t do nothing.”
