Radio personalties walk out

You’ve been listening to Pollard and KC in the mornings on WTVY-FM 95.5.

Well, a lot of you have, but not anymore.

Amie Pollard and Ken Carlile, whose morning radio show helped WTVY become the most-listened-to station in the Dothan market, abruptly quit the station Monday along with on-air personalities Big Mike Casey (Mike Missildine) and Miss Elizabeth (Elizabeth Parrish), as well as the promotions director and two salespersons.

Officials with Magic Broadcasting, the Panama City, Fla.-based company that owns WTVY as well as four other Wiregrass stations, declined to comment.

The on-air quartet has referred all comment to their attorney, Sam Cherry.

“I have asked that each of them not make any public comments as to the reason for their departure from WTVY,” Cherry said Tuesday. “It is my belief after extensive interviews that circumstances were presented that prevented them from performing their jobs as contemplated at the time they first started with the station.

“There is no ill will and we are hopeful that this matter can be cleared up quickly,” Cherry added.

Cherry declined to comment on the reason for their departure, or if the group planned to seek other employment in the near future.

Pollard and Carlile have been together as the WTVY morning duo for five years. Pollard worked three years at the station prior to Carlile’s arrival. Missildine and Parrish had been at the station for several years as well.

WTVY was the top-rated station in the Dothan market among all listeners aged 12 and above, according to the latest Arbitron ratings taken in the fall of 2007. The country music station earned a 10.4 rating, meaning 10.4 percent of the radio stations in the area turned on at any given time were tuned to the station. WOOF-FM (adult contemporary) was second with a 9.7. Ratings for the spring of 2008 are due out next month.

I don’t know what problem caused this walk out, but it must have been something huge. I have been a avid listener of these DJ’s for a long time and I trust each one of them, so I know it was something they completely believed in.  I miss waking up to Pollard and KC as they are wonderful people and honest.  They brought us top news very fast and kept us on top of any bad weather.  Most of all I miss the laughs the gave me.  I do not listen to WTVY anymore!  It’s just like any other radio station now.  I will follow Amy and KC wherever the future takes them.  They are in my opinion heros!  They are honest and have hearts of gold.  I am banning WTVY from my radios until the return of all that left.  I love you Amy and KC!

I love Pollard and KC. I believe they brought a lot of listeners to WTVY.  I would follow them anywhere.  I love Rick and Bubba, but I will listen to them on one of the other stations.

I and my husband support them 100% whatever all of them decide to do. They have further the city, the station, and the careers of the local talentno to mention all the big name personalities they have attracted to the area. I think the station was being petty before ans are continuing to not acknowledge the talent and worth of what they had a their disposal. I hope they announce where they intend to go because my whole family catrett’s and the Owens’ intend to lissen to their new station.

Considering the general public does not know the circumstances, it is my opinion that it had to be a big deal for them to walk out.Amy, KC, Big Mike, & Mrs. Elizabeth made that station worth listening to. I will follow them. They worked and fought hard to help out a lot of people. When you met anyone of them they were not snobs, in person they are the same as they are on the air…down home folks that know life is hard. No one worked harder to help and support OUR TROOPS. I believe wtvy will loose a lot of listeners now.

I have laughed with these radio personalities and cried with them, some say they were big headed, to me their hearts were the only things big about them, remember all that they gave of themselves to charities and communities where there was a need, i will follow them to another station, I will miss my Friday morning kickoff to the weekend!!!!!

I really think it’s a shame that no one could say anything to anyone about the walkout.  I quit listening about a year ago.  Ms. Pollard got to where all she talked about was her favorite singer, Jeff Bates ALL the time.  I wonder how they will get jobs in the future doing this.  I just think it’s a shame!!
