Independent thinkers needed
Published: October 11, 2008
This letter is in response to Jack Cook’s Oct. 5 letter concerning his Auburn/Alabama football team “parable.” Recall his letter suggested that (Democratic congressional candidate) Bobby Bright could not decide which team to play on.
I would like to thank Mr. Cook for providing the readers with the best explanation of why we have “gridlock” in Washington. His idea that a congressman should not have independent judgement and wisdom and must always vote with the team (political party) is the best argument for business as usual in Washington.
Mr. Cook needs to save his football parable for those who don’t think for themselves and need a team (party) to think for them, those who equate the term bipartisanship with something evil.
I sincerely hope that whoever wins the race will go to Washington with an independent mindset, recognizing that no team or its coach (political boss) will always make the right call for America.
