Taking issue with gun ban report
Published: July 22, 2008
You might want to examine stories from AP’s Stephen Manning more closely. His article, “Gun Ban Shot Down,” (Dothan Eagle, June 26) is one of the most slanted.
Laws restricting or prohibiting gun ownership only deprive good citizens of effective defense. Criminals are not going to turn in their guns. They have no regard for the law; that’s why they are criminals.
Generally, criminals are lazy, take the path of least resistance and prey upon the weak. You’ve heard of bad characters killing unarmed students on gun-free campuses, but try to find an incident of armed robbery at a gun show.
The only effective gun laws are those that require a background check looking for repeated illegal, anti-social or disturbed mental behavior. Most other gun restrictions are just feel-good, politically motivated and ineffective.
Hopefully, most of your readers realize the folly of a disarmed public and will vote against gun bans or candidates who advocate such harmful legislation.

Have gun; will travel.
Gun ban laws are the politician’s way of showing a distain for the constitution. This is their personal effort to rewrite it to fit their particular view.
