Roundup: Daleville beats Geneva at buzzer

GENEVA — Robert Owens picked up a loose ball on a Geneva turnover and went the other way of the court for a game-winning layup at the buzzer to lift Daleville to a 63-61 win over the Panthers on Tuesday night.

Owens finished with a game-high 19 points and had six assists and five steals for Daleville. Charlie Stewart earned 15 points, Ricky Yeager 13 points and seven rebounds and Chris Stone 10 points and nine rebounds.

Darius Flowers led Geneva with 17 points. Willie Williams had 15 and David Soles and Tate Sutherland had 10 points each.

Houston County 76, Houston Academy 57: Edward Robinson had 23 points and Jazeric Peterson 22 to pace Houston County (18-3, 1-0) over Houston Academy (8-6, 0-1).

Desmond Warren added 10 points for the Lions.

David Gannon had 19 points, Jo-El Bennett 15 and Ben Hewitt 10 for HA.

Straughn 54, Greenville 53: Straughn held off a late rally and survived when Greenville missed two free throws in the final seconds.
C.J. Christopher had 18 points and Jakim Felton 14 points and 10 rebounds for Straughn (8-9).

Eufaula 67, Rehobeth 32: Eufaula’s Herbert “Red” Brooks scored 19 points to lead the fourth-ranked Tigers’ victory.

Brooks was one of three Tigers to reach double figures and one of nine that scored at least a point in the win.

Josh Jones scored 13 points and Calvin Thomas added 11 for Eufaula (17-1, 1-0).

Anthony McBryde led Rehobeth (7-8, 0-1) with eight points.

Barbour County 58, G.W. Long 17: Devondrick Richardson scored 17 and Courtavious Dorsey 14 in leading the Jaguars (14-2).

Wicksburg 64, Cottonwood 57: Four players scored in double figures to lead Wicksburg, led by Matthew Pressgraves’ 15 points.
Drew Lee and Colby Thomley added 11 points each and James Brock had 10 for Wicksburg (6-9).

Alex Morris had 24 points, Desmond Debose 14 and Xavier Davis 12 for Cottonwood.

Emmanuel Christian 75, Victory 38: Chris Randall scored 19, Garrett Golden 16 and Hunter Norris had 10 rebounds as Emmanuel Christian won.

Andalusia 70, Hillcrest-Evergreen 36: Brandon Sims scored 25 and Nico Johnson 19 for the Bulldogs.

Red Level 80, Excel 70: D.J. Sankey had 27 points, nine rebounds and eight assists,  and Cale Nolen added 23 points, leading the Tigers (13-6, 1-0).

Luke Sharp added 13 for Red Level.

Anthony Williams had 22 points and Gene Hollinger 18 for Excel.

Ashford Academy 71, Abbeville Christian 58: Cade Hughes scored 41 points, Timmy Garrett had 15, and Preston Harris scored 13.
For ACA, Brandon Kirkland scored 20 points, and Clay Herring scored 16.

Georgiana 65, JU Blacksher 61: Jamey Williams scored 17, Devin Thomas 14 and Victor Marshall 11 for Georgiana (13-4).

Girls

Eufaula 49, Rehobeth 20: Eufaula’s Jessica Holloway scored a game-high 17 points to power the Lady Tigers over Rehobeth.

Kiera Holloway scored eight and Paige Rowland added six for Eufaula (3-10, 1-0 Class 5A, Area 3).

Lyquinda Cummings led Rehobeth with 12 points.

Red Level 36, Excel 33: Koneshia Calloway had 13 points and nine rebounds to lead Red Level (7-8, 1-0).
Sarina Brown had 11 points for Excel.

Barbour County 46, G.W. Long 21: Nicole Brooks scored 12 to lead the Jaguars (9-3), while Kirstie Ross scored 18 for G.W. Long.

Geneva 58, Daleville 49 (OT): Geneva was held to just eight points total in the third and fourth quarters before scoring 14 in overtime to win.

Geneva led 35-18 at halftime.

Cheree Duncan scored 19 and Lacy Duncan 11 for the Panthers (14-4).

Camille Christian scored 26 for Daleville.

Houston County 35, Houston Academy 33: Brittney Johnson led Houston County with nine points, and Jasman Hamilton scored eight.

Madison Potter led HA with 14 points and eight rebounds.

Straughn 48, Greenville 47: Katy Messick hit a shot with 2.4 seconds left to give Straughn the win. Kaitlynn Wiggins led Straughn with 19 points, and Tiffany Freeney scored 10.

Wicksburg 35, Cottonwood 15: Samantha Pressgraves led Wicksburg with eight points and 11 rebounds, and Arica Dykes scored seven points and had seven steals.

Kierra Dawsey scored six for Cottonwood.

Lakeside 55, Springwood 36: Logan Adams had 16 points with 12 rebounds, Brynna Chapman 14 points, Merritt Waddell 11 points, eight steals and seven assists and Morgan Musick 10 points as Lakeside improved to 11-4, 6-0 in area play.

Ashford Academy 36, Abbeville Christian 31: Lindsay Jay scored 12 points for Ashford Academy, and Ebonee Cook scored 20 points, had 18 rebounds and got nine steals.

Morgan Hatcher led ACA with 12 points.

JV

Wicksburg boys 58, Cottonwood 11: Daniel Reese had 12 points and Gabriel Richards seven to lead the Panthers.

Austin North led Cottonwood with seven points.

Eufaula boys 35, Rehobeth 24: Marcel Peterson led Eufaula with nine points and Antonio Debose led Rehobeth with eight points.

Geneva boys 29, Daleville 23: Deandre Dickens had eight points to lead Geneva, while T.J. Lorick had 10 for Daleville.

Ashford Academy girls 24, Abbeville Christian 18: Jenna Barnes led Ashford Academy with eight points and nine rebounds, and Hannah Gallee had eight points.

Haley Kirkland scored nine for ACA.

Abbeville Christian boys 34, Ashford Academy 17: Chip White led ACA with 10 points.

Matthew Brackins led Ashford Academy with nine points.
