Abbeville Christian buses won’t be rolling northward tonight to Cornerstone Christian after all.

They will do instead on Monday night.

Generals head coach Johnny White said Thursday night that his team’s scheduled region game at Cornerstone, located in Columbiana near Birmingham, was moved to Monday night.

White said Cornerstone officials requested moving the game because of consistent rainfall in the area in the last two weeks has flooded the area. More than two inches of rain fell in that area Thursday.

Game time Monday is set for 7 p.m.

Playoff tickets: Five Wiregrass clinched state playoff berths last week and a handful of others will do so this week.

Clinching spots were Pike County and Daleville in Class 3A, Region 2, Elba in Class 2A, Region 2, Goshen in Class 2A, Region 3 and Pike Liberal Arts of AISA Class AAA, Region 1.

Some of the teams with chances of clinching spots tonight are Dothan, Andalusia, Straughn, Houston Academy, Houston County, Geneva County and Providence Christian.

Top players: Six players from the area were honored last week by either the Alabama Sports Writers Association or the Alabama High School Athletic Association for play last week.

The five were Enterprise’s Willie Curry, Ashford Academy’s Danny Waggoner, Elba’s Tyler Anderson, Cottonwood’s D.D. Dawsey, Houston County’s Desmond Warren and Charles Henderson’s K.D. Edenfield.

All but Waggoner were honored by the AHSAA, while Curry, Waggoner, Anderson and Dawsey were honored by the ASWA.

Enterprise’s Curry and Waggoner were two of the three finalists for the ASWA offensive player of the week and Anderson was one of the three finalists for the defensive player top award. Anderson was also a AHSAA finalist among top performances.

Curry broke a 53-year Enterprise record, rushing for a school-best 276 yards on just 16 carries in the Wildcats’ 41-36 win over Smiths Station. Curry also rushed for four touchdowns, including a game-winning 5-yard TD run with 2:31 left.

Waggoner had 429 yards in offense — 231 rushing and 198 passing — and figured in all three touchdowns in a 23-20 win over Abbeville Christian.
Anderson recorded 22 tackles, including 15 solo stops, in helping then No. 10 Elba defeated then No. 5 Houston Academy, 31-14.

Cottonwood’s Dawsey had 14 tackles and recovered three fumbles on defense and also rushed for 139 yards and three touchdowns, including a game-winning 8 yarder in overtime of the Bears’ 27-21 win over Samson.

Houston County’s Warren accounted for 391 yards and three scores in the Lions’ 39-14 win over G.W. Long. He completed 15-of-26 passes for 289 yards with two touchdowns and had 102 yards rushing with a touchdown.

Charles Henderson’s Edenfield accounted for five touchdowns and 304 total yards in the Trojans’ 42-16 win over Rehobeth. He was 9-of-15 passing for 206 yards and four scores and rushed for 98 yards and another TD.

Army Man nominees: The area had three finalists for this week’s Army Man Iron Man Award, which honors the top two-way performances of the week.
The three were Providence Christian’s Banks Smith along with Cottonwood’s Dawsey and Houston County’s Warren.

Smith had 178 yards rushing and two touchdowns, caught a 25-yard touchdown pass, threw a 17-yard touchdown pass, recorded 105 kick/punt return yards and converted three extra point kicks in the Eagles’ 27-19 win over Ariton.

Warren, in addition to his offensive numbers, recorded five tackles on defense, returned two punts for 41 yards, boomed one punt for 39 yards and placed two of his four kickoffs in the end zone for touchbacks.

Seminole County at No. 9: Seminole County moved up in one poll and into another, landing at No. 9 in both polls in the state of Georgia this week. The Indians (6-1) slid up one in the Associated Press poll and jumped into the Atlanta Journal-Constitution version.

Alan Ingram’s team faces a top-10 battle this week as it entertains Miller County, No. 10 in both polls.
