Elba rolls past Excel

ELBA — Carlos Matias ran for 154 yards and two touchdowns (31, 42) as Elba (11-0) rolled past Excel 31-0.

Kendrick Robertson added a 55-yard touchdown run, and Williams Hooks scored on an 11-yard run. Richard Cooks added a 31-yard field goal.
Elba will host Washington County next week.

Washington County 49, Houston County 7: Desmond Warren threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Jazeric Peterson for the Lions’ lone score. Warren threw for 120 yards on 15-of-24 passing. Houston County finished the year 8-3.

Ray Jackson led Houston County with seven tackles, and Devin Mizner added five tackles and a sack.

Devonte Parker rushed for 149 yards and five touchdowns on 17 carries to power Washington County.

Parker scored on runs of 6, 13, 3, 11 and 1 yard while Kaz Cooper had a 67-yard fumble return and Dane Howard added an 8-yard TD run.

Logan Gunn was a perfect 7-of-7 in PAT kicks for the Demons, who improved to 9-2 and visit Elba.

Class 4A
Opp 21, Andalusia 16:
Andalusia outgained Opp 331-254, but three interceptions and 141 yards in penalties doomed the Bulldogs.
Opp opened the scoring in the first quarter on a Devin Davis 48-yard interception return. Hunter Jones’ extra point made it 7-0.

Andalusia took the lead on T.K. Bullard’s 6-yard run and two-point play in the third quarter.

Josh Scarbrough gave Opp the lead again when he ran for 66 of his 93 yards. Gavin Free hit Trent Finedore on a two-point play to make it 15-8.
In the fourth quarter, Free converted a fourth-and-12 play by hitting Josh Thompson on a 35-yard touchdown pass to make the score 21-8.

Andalusia answered with an 80-yard run less than a minute later, but Opp held on for the win.

Opp (7-4) will host Jackson (10-1) next week. Andalusia ended the year 6-5.

Class 3A
Straughn 35, Geneva 19:
Eric Samuel ran for 256 yards, including rushes of 76, 55 and 65 yards, and one score as Straughn (8-3) pulled away in the second half. Samuel opened the scoring with a 10-yard run in the first quarter.

Geneva’s Tavares McIntyre answered with a 5-yard run to tie the game at 6. Josh Dewrell then hit Austin Pickrell with a 44-yard TD pass to give Straughn a 12-6 lead after one quarter.

Dewrell scored on a 5-yard run and hit Nick Allen on the two-pointer to push the lead to 20-6 in the second quarter. Quan Tolbert for Geneva (4-7) scored on a 39-yard run to cut the lead to 20-13 at halftime.

Dewrell then scored on a 4-yard run in the third quarter, and Tanner Lee scored on a 4-yard run to push the lead to 35-13. Brad Horne hit Deandre Dickens with a 35-yard TD pass late in the fourth to end the scoring.

Straughn hosts Bayside in the second round next week. Geneva finished the year 4-7.

T.R. Miller 35, Abbeville 6: Abbeville rushed for 200 yards, but threw five interceptions in falling to the Tigers.

Quentin Newman threw a 58-yard touchdown pass to Quin Sampson for the Yellow Jacket touchdown.

Abbeville finishes the year 5-6.

Anthony Herbert scored four touchdowns and Walter Smith had two of the interceptions for Miller (10-1), which hosts Luverne next week.
Class 1A

Sweet Water 70, Providence Christian 0: Nathan Turner led PCS with 68 yards rushing. Austin Gilchrist added 42 yards. Alex Plagenhoef threw for 79 yards, including 54 to Austin Evans on three catches for the Eagles, who finished the year 6-5.

McIntosh 33, Geneva County 27: In a game of swings, Geneva County came up just short. After Desmond Lett’s 41-yard run gave the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead, McIntosh ran off 25 straight points.

Geneva County rallied to cut the lead to 25-20, but McIntosh held on for the win. Bradley Hutcherson scored on a 3-yard fumble recovery in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 25-14. Reggie Jones then threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to Richard Williams.

McIntosh pushed the lead back to 33-20, and Geneva County scored with 50 seconds left on an Eric Walding to Williams to Lett hook-and-lateral play that covered 65 yards to provide the final score.

Walding finished 6-of-13 for 137 yards and two interceptions and ran for 69 yards. E-Shane McNeal ran for 88 yards. Lett ran for 75 yards and had seven tackles and an interception on defense.

Josh Smith added nine tackles and a fumble recovery, Hutcherson had 11 tackles and Blake Simmons had nine tackles.

AISA
Pike Liberal Arts 55, Marengo 13:
Nick McLaughlin ran for 67 yards on six carries and scored a touchdown as the Patriots rolled.

Trey Walters added 68 yards and a score, Daniel Powell had 41 yards and a score, and Tanner Grant ran for 30 yards and a touchdown.

Sam Carroll and Blake Thomas caught TD passes, and Thomas also scored on a 79-yard kickoff return. Powell added a 63-yard punt return for a score.
McLaughlin and Carroll led the Patriots (9-1) with six tackles each. Ashton Davis, Justin McLaughlin and Tanner Grant had five tackles each.
PLAS will travel to Morgan Academy next week.

GHSA
Cook County 27, Early County 14:
T.J. Allen ran for a 1-yard score, and Quayven Levatte added a 14-yard touchdown run. Early County ran for 224 yards.
With the outcome, Cook advanced to the state playoffs, while Early County (5-5) was eliminated from contention.

Seminole County 56, Bacon County 19: The Indians clinched a state playoff berth, beating Bacon County 56-19.

The Indians rushed for 407 yards, led by Chris Brown’s 201 yards on 15 carries. Brown scored three touchdowns on runs of 30, 55 and 8 yards.

DeMichael Fedd rushed for 52 yards with TD runs of 34 and 2 yards. Antwan Buggs had 44 yards rushing and a 1-yard TD run. Tyrone Cunningham added an 19-yard TD run.

Buggs completed a 20-yard touchdown pass to Jaquan Johnson for the other score.

Jeffery Croom hit 6-of-7 point after kicks and Dee Virgin completed a two-point conversion pass to Brown.

FHSAA
Graceville 32, Gottondale 18:
Treyshaun White rushed for 101 yards and four TDs on seven carries for GHS, and Leron Hoover rushed for 157 and a TD on 25 carries.

For Cottondale, Dominique Webb rushed for 75 yards and a TD. Drew Bellamy passed for two TDs for CHS.
