Roundup: New Brockton edges G.W. Long

SKIPPERVILLE — Tevin McNair rushed for 212 yards and scored all four touchdowns, leading New Brockton over G.W. Long 28-27 in a Class 2A, Region 2 game.
McNair scored on runs of 1, 2, 9 and 2 yards for New Brockton (2-0, 1-0).
Johnny McArthur added 42 yards rushing on 12 carries as the Gamecocks finished with 244 yards on the ground.
Hunter Cauley completed 11-of-15 passes for 90 yards with Seth Culverhouse catching eight passes for 63 yards.
David Davidson led the New Brockton defense with nine tackles and Culverhouse had seven tackles plus an interception. McNair had six tackles and Kyle Osborne five tackles and both recovered a fumble.
For G.W. Long, Mason Stevens rushed for 64 yards on five carries with two touchdowns and completed 11-of-18 passing for 113 yards with a touchdown pass of 25 yards to Colt Reeder. He also had an interception on defense.
Dewayne Whigham rushed for 43 yards on seven carries and caught five passes for 76 yards. Whigham also had six tackles on defense with a sack and returned a fumble 88 yards for a score.
Charles Henderson 25, Tallassee 7: Kicker Justin Smith hit four field goals to helped lift Charles Henderson over Tallassee.
Smith hit field goals of 23, 33, 27 and 25 yards.
Quintos Moss returned an interception 42 yards and Lequintez Reynolds scored on a 13-yard run for the other Trojan score.
Slocomb 36, Headland 12: Jermaine “Juicy” Williams ran for 212 yards and two touchdowns in helping Slocomb to the victory.
Scottie Burdeshaw added 101 yards rushing for the Red Tops.
Will Harper threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Williams and an 11-yard TD pass to Jacobe Reynolds.
Andre Robinson returned an interception 19 yards for a score.
Headland got a 3-yard touchdown run by Michael Thompson and a 5-yard TD run by Jontavious Moore. Thompson had 56 yards rushing and Moore 47 yards.
Defensively, Slocomb was led by Reynolds with nine tackles, Cruise Young with seven tackles and Reagan Kelley with six tackles, which included a sack for a safety.
Headland was led defensively by Drew Davis with seven solo tackles and eight assists and Ethan Parrish with six solos, six assists.
Catholic 14, Ashford 10: Catholic scored on a 5-yard run in the fourth quarter for the victory.
Ashford got on the scoreboard first when Demichael Wigfall scored on a 38-yard run in the first quarter. Jeremy McInnish added the extra point kick.
Catholic tied the score in the first on a 5-yard TD pass.
In the second quarter, McInnish connected on a 19-yard field goal for a 10-7 halftime lead.
Wigfall led Ashford with 115 yards of rushing. Charlton Pope was 8-of-16 passing for 87 yards.
Defensively, the Yellow Jackets were led by Dalton Brunson, Jeremy Enfinger and Mike Ray.
Straughn 42, Choctaw County 32: Straughn led 35-0 at halftime in the easy victory.
Straughn got first quarter touchdowns by Andrew Stokes on a 1-yard run, a 12-yard pass from Ryne Taylor to Stokes and a 34-yard run by Taylor. Josh Dewrell kicked through the extra points.
Straughn made it 28-0 in the second quarter when Taylor threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Trey Matthews. Straughn made it 35-0 at halftime when Taylor connected with Jakim Felton on a 32-yard pass.
Straughn opened the third quarter scoring when Dewrell hit Austin Pickrell on a 27-yard TD strike.
Playing only in the first half, Taylor rushed for 53 yards on five carries and connected on 5-of-11 passes for 110 yards and three touchdowns. Stokes, also playing in just the first half, had 44 yards rushing on six carries. Straughn had 367 yards of total offense.
B.C. Rain 20, Andalusia 15: In Mobile, when Andalusia linebacker and Alabama commitment Nico Johnson intercepted B.C. Rain quarterback Omar Smith’s pass in the shadow of his own goal posts with less than two minutes left in the game, it appeared to have sealed a victory for the Bulldogs.
Instead, the Red Raiders’ defense forced a 12-yard Andalusia punt that led two plays later to a 13-yard Omar Smith-to-Michael Lett scoring pass with 1:06 remaining to give Rain a 20-15 win Friday night at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
A Smith-to-Lett scoring toss of 25 yards with 1:06 left in the opening quarter and Carlos Wilson’s 5-yard touchdown run six minutes earlier had staked the Red Raiders to a 14-0 lead.
Andalusia came back, taking a 15-14 advantage into the final quarter thanks to a 37-yard C.J. Richardson scoring run and successful 2-point conversion in the second quarter and Brett Shiver’s 58-yard pass to Leslie James in the third quarter.
Geneva County 67, Kinston 0: Rico Reese threw for 204 yards and five touchdowns, connecting on 13-of-15 passes.
The Bulldogs had 642 yards of total offense and led 48-0 by halftime in the win.
In the first quarter, Geneva County got a 59-yard touchdown run by Reggie Jones, and touchdown passes from Reese to Kevin Key (12 yards) and Reese to Reggie Jones (19 yards).
Reese connected with Jones on a 19-yard scoring pass early in the second quarter. Chris Lett scored on an 11-yard run and Reese and Lett connected for a 20-yard TD reception. Reese threw a 25-yard TD pass to Key before halftime.
In the second half, Julian Ammons scored on a 5-yard run, Desmond Lett scored on a 70-yard run and a 44-yard interception return.
Jones and Ammons each had 104 yards rushing. Key had four catches for 103 yards. Chris Lett had four solo tackles, two assists and an interception, while Desmond Lett had three solo tackles, three assists and two interceptions. Donald Dillard added five solos and two assists, and E-Shane McNeal had four solos and two assists.
Dale County 14, Abbeville 13: Dale County led 14-0 at halftime and had to hold on late to record the victory.
Abbeville scored with around six minutes to play in the game to pull within 14-13 and went for a 2-point conversion, but Dale County came up with the stop.
Alex Lints intercepted a pass for Dale County on the 5-yard line to help preserve the victory.
Dale County scored both of its touchdowns in the second quarter. Trey Watson scored on a 2-yard run and Justin Wesley threw a 56-yard touchdown pass to Justin Brown. Wesley connected with Zack Byrd for the 2-point conversion.
Wesley was 5-of-6 passing for 79 yards, while Watson had 16 carries for 50 yards.
Barbour County 12, Samson 6: Devondrick Richardson ran for 180 yards and two touchdowns and had 15 tackles in leading Barbour County (2-0) to the victory.
Samson got on the scoreboard first when Brandon Carter scored on a 10-yard run in the opening quarter.
Also on in the first, Richardson scored on a 33-yard run to tie the score at 6-6.
Richardson scored the lone TD of the second half on a 89-yard run.
Takwain Whigham had a big game defensively with an interception and two fumble recoveries.
Calvin Fenn had 13 tackles for the Jaguars, while Robert Lampley had 10.
Eufaula 7, Booker T. Washington 0: Despite fumbling three times on its first five plays, Class 5A’s No. 1 Eufaula held on for a victory. Ramon Lewis scored Eufaula’s only touchdown.
Ariton 40, Pleasant Home 8: Bradley Deal led the way for Ariton (2-0, 1-0) with 106 yards rushing. Layton Grant ran for touchdowns of 15 and 4 yards. Cole Harden threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Lampley and a 9-yarder to Craig Sanders.
Patrick Robinson had a 15-yard touchdown run and Sanders a 2-yard touchdown run.
Pleasant Home’s touchdown came on a 24-yard run by Dominick Sims.
Pike Liberal Arts 47, Hooper Academy 7: The Patriots led 47-7 in the third quarter before Hooper scored a couple of times late.
Jerel Foster had 114 yards and Justin McLaughlin 109 yards and both scored two touchdowns. Josh Taylor earned 67 yards rushing and a touchdown. Trey Walters scored on a 1-yard sneak.
Corey Goodson had 12 tackles and two interceptions, returning one 26 yards for a touchdown.
Crenshaw Christian 61, Abbeville Christian 6: Gabe Newman rushed for 104 yards on seven carries and Clay Herring scored the lone touchdown for the Generals on a 1-yard run.
Shelby Watford added 56 yards rushing on 13 carries for ACA.
Defensively, Newman had seven tackles and Watford five. Sterling Armstrong recovered a fumble.
Shelby Academy 43, Lakeside School 6: Chad King returned the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown and the Shelby Academy Raiders never looked back, cruising to a 43-6 victory.
The Raiders had three 100 yard rushers in the game, led by Chad King, who had 129 yards rushing, including a 10 yard touchdown, to go with his kickoff return. Jason McDaniel had 101 yards rushing in the first half including a 27 yard touchdown run, and finished with 111 rushing yards for the game. Brandon Horton rushed for exactly 100 yards with touchdown runs of 3 and 37.
The only highlight for the Lakeside Chiefs came with 1:41 left in the third quarter. Christopher Williams returned a good kickoff from Jordan Ikner 90 yards for a touchdown.
Sam Slade recovered two fumbles for Lakeside.
Marianna 34, Blountstown 7: Bradley Battles rushed for 178 yards and two scores on 24 carries and Trey Long rushed for 93 and two scores on nine carries to pace the Bulldogs to a season-opening win.
Graceville 36, Liberty County 16: Leron Hoover and Treyshaun White both rushed for 124 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries each, leading the Tiger win.
Turner County 24, Seminole County 6: Johnny Jones scored on a short run for Seminole County’s lone points. Turner County led 12-6 at halftime.
Pike County 29, Wicksburg 0:At Wicksburg, Josh Parker ran 20 times for 143 yards and two 1-yard touchdowns as Pike County (1-1, 1-0) earned its first win of the season. Parker also had 71 yards passing, including a 24-yard TD pass to Quan Bryant.
Christopher Griffin ran 16 times for 121 yards and a 56-yard TD. Pike County earned 403 yards of total offense, including 332 yards rushing.
Wicksburg (1-1, 0-1) was led by ColbyThomley’s 87 yards passing.DustinCogburn had 18 tackles, BlakeSims had 14 tackles,John Davis had five tackles and a sack andEvan Smith had an interception.
Miller County 19, Early County 7: At Colquitt, Ga., Antonio Williams ran for 79 yards and a first-quarter 7-yard score, but Early County could not overcome Trez Morgan.
Morgan ran for scores of 15 and 2 yards, and he threw a 52-yard touchdown to Cosby Salter.
Ashford Academy 52, SMCA 0: At Grady, Justin Ingle and Kevin Gray each ran for more than 100 yards and had two touchdowns apiece as Ashford Academy (2-0) dominated. Preston Harris threw a TD pass to Cade Hughes.
Tyler Daniels and Cameron Bess had two tackles each, and McClendon, Gray, Ingle and Clay Stewart led the team in tackles. Ashford Academy’s coach also praised the blocking of Bess, McLendon and Tyler Williams on the offensive line.
SMCA was held to three first downs in the game.
Flomaton 38, Red Level 14: At Red Level, Desmond Jones had 67 yards rushing and a score, and Shane Jackson added another, but Red Level could not compete with Flomaton’s Tony Ellis.
Ellis ran 25 times for 340 yards and five touchdowns on the night.
Daleville 29, Geneva 14: At Geneva, Daleville came back from an early 14-0 deficit behind a solid passing game and tough defensive line.
Daleville scored late in the first quarter to cut the deficit to 14-7. A key play came when, punting out of the end zone, Geneva’s punter had his knee hit the ground for a safety. Daleville also took advantage of a late first-half interception and drove in for the touchdown that put the Warhawks up 15-14 at halftime.
Daleville scored once in the third quarter and got a final score early in the fourth.
