Arenas isn’t worried about complacency on defense

Javy Arenas makes things happen for the Alabama Crimson Tide. The senior cornerback and return specialist has scored seven career touchdowns of 60 yards or more. Six of those, of course, were punt returns.

My story in Sunday’s Eagle is on the Tide’s Little Big Man, whose development as a shut-down corner is just as crucial as his special teams play.

I asked Arenas if complacency was a concern for a touted Alabama defense that returns eight starters. In typical Javy fashion, he quashed that idea.

“No. Not as hard as I work and not as hard as my teammates work,“ he said. “If you’ve seen us working out there and seen us in meeting rooms in the offseason, complacency, it won’t even be in the conversation. I haven’t noticed it and it’s not a worry for us.“
