Wallace employee receives Datatel scholars foundation graduate scholarship
Sally Buchanan of Dothan was awarded a scholarship from the Datatel Scholars Foundation for graduate studies at Troy University-Dothan. Buchanan is pursuing a master of science in postsecondary education.
The foundation awarded 242 scholarships nationwide, totaling $422,000, to high-performing students for the 2008-09 academic year. More than $5.5 million in scholarships has been distributed since the program was established in 1990.
Datatel provides colleges and universities fully integrated administrative software systems and professional services to help manage business processes and enhance the technology experience across campus. According to Jane Roth, executive director, scholarships are supported by an annual grant from Datatel, gifts from corporate friends and contributions from Datatel employees. “The Foundation is proud to make a difference throughout the higher education community,” said Roth, “and we are especially pleased to once again help so many students attending our client institutions achieve their education goals.”
Headquartered in Fairfax, Va., Datatel serves five million students at more than 750 institutions throughout North America and overseas.
Wallace involved in giveaway program
As fuel prices continue to rise, online learning is more popular than ever. Education to Go (ed2go), a leading provider of distance education, is enticing students to try their online courses with a chance to win an Apple® iPod® touch, a portable media player with an edgy touch screen feature.
Ed2go will give an iPod® touch to the 100th, 1,000th, and 10,000th student enrolled each month, August through November 2008. In addition to the iPod touch give-away, ed2go is also offering participating institutions the opportunity to win scholarship money.
Wallace Community College offers ed2go courses as part of its workforce development program. Ed2go makes it easy to go to school via the Internet and offers a variety of quality, affordable courses. Each course includes expert online instruction and interaction with the instructor and fellow students. Students study at their own paces and can access the classroom 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Students who successfully complete the program are awarded a certificate of completion.
