OPD seeking armed robbery suspects

February 26, 2010

By Ebony Horton

OZARK - Ozark police are looking for at least three armed robbers from two separate incidents this week.
According to Ozark Police Chief Tony Spivey, a man with a handgun entered Colliers gas station on U.S. Highway 231 on Monday and demanded money from the clerk before fleeing south Highway 231.
Few details of the man were available, though Spivey said the man is believed to have left the state and to be responsible for other robberies throughout the southeastern region.
On Wednesday, Spivey said two men with a shotgun went into Crew’s Barber Shop on East Andrews Avenue and demanded money from the owner before fleeing west in a black Nissan Sentra with an Alabama Disabled Veterans tag.
Spivey said at least two of the three robbery suspects have been identified, but none have been arrested.
Spivey said anyone with information on the robberies is asked to call the Ozark Police Department at (334) 774-5111 or Dale County Crimestoppers at (334) 774-9999.

Community Leaders “Go to Jail” for the Youth of Dale County

Community leaders in Dale County will not be able to “get out of jail free.” In fact, the more the public gives the longer they will have to be locked up! On Friday, February 26th the Coalition for a Drug Free Dale County & SpectraCare Health Systems will be holding a “Bail or Jail” fundraiser. The fundraiser will be held from 9:00am-5:00pm in front of Wal-Mart Supercenter in Ozark. All funds raised will go to host safe and drug-free after prom parties for three of Dale County’s high schools- Carroll High, Daleville High, and Dale County High. The “jailbirds” for the event will be community leaders throughout Dale County such as school officials, law enforcement, judges, business owners, physicians, attorneys, and even pastors! They have each been asked to raise their bail money ahead of time. But there is a catch! We will provide the public with a list of our “jailbirds.” Community members can join us at Wal-mart and give us donations in order to keep them “locked up!” In order for them to get out of jail, they must match the donation in addition to their set bail!
The Coalition for a Drug Free Dale County and SpectraCare Health Systems have successfully sponsored drug free after prom parties for the last five years. The after prom parties have kept hundreds of youth safe, while providing them with a fun and memorable evening.
If you can’t attend the “Bail or Jail” fundraiser but would still like to donate to the after prom parties, you can mail your donation to: Coalition for a Drug Free Dale County c/o SpectraCare Health Systems 191 South Oates Street Dothan, Alabama 36301.
