Mother charged with child abuse goes before judge today

June Victoria Henry was charged with aggravated child abuse in connection to her son. She is to be sentenced today. Her boyfriend at the time, Eddie Ledbetter, was sentenced earlier to more than a decade in a state prison.

Dale County Schools discussing dress code

The Dale County Board of Education will have a work session on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 immediately after the monthly board meeting. The board is seeking public input in regards to the dress code policy currently in place. Anyone who would like to address the board during this session is urged to call the board office at 774-2355 and be placed on the agenda. The deadline to be placed on the agenda is Friday, July 10, 2009.

Skipperville murder has twists and turns

There is a story on the main page about a murder that occurred in Skipperville this morning. Authorities aren’t releasing any name except that of the victim, Trent Clark, 32, who allegedly was attempting to kill the juvenile who killed him. More information is expected to follow in the morning.

Indigent defense

Tomorrow’s paper will have a story on indigent defense. In Dale County indigent defense attorneys were paid $891,000 last year for cases. The District Attorney’s office got $400,000 for its salaries. The article is more about disparity in funding, but how do you feel about the concept of indigent defense altogether?

Ozark PD reports calm day Monday

Monday was a smooth day for Ozark PD with the exception of a fire in Jasmine Hill Apartments. According to a police report, victims of the two apartments that endured fire damage reported juveniles started the fire. The incident is under investigation. More will follow.
