Charges against a woman Midland City authorities said assaulted a police officer were dismissed in municipal court on Wednesday.
Midland City Judge Will Matthews dismissed third-degree assault and obstructing governmental operation charges against Mary Helen Crawford with prejudice, which means the case can not come up again in court.
According to Midland City Police, Crawford grabbed Officer Anthony Hall during the arrest of Mark Allen Carpenter, who was charged last month with intent to distribute child porn.
Authorities said Crawford was at the scene with one of Carpenter’s relatives, but that warrants were not obtained for her arrest on that day.
Midland City Prosecutor Robert Brogden said he asked Midland City police officials for video of the incident but it was never received. Brogden also questioned why charges against Crawford were not brought the day the incident allegedly occurred last month.

A family buried another one of my classmates today. Jonathon Tishnell, 23 and a Dale County Sheriff’s Jailer, died doing what he loved last week during a fishing trip in Barbour County.
Of course you hear a lot of times at funerals how good a person was and how everyone else needs to live like they did and accept Jesus as their Savior. At John’s funeral today, some of the people who spoke of him could have never been more right.
I remember J as kind of hanging in the shadow with the small and weird group of people I chilled with (yes, we can all admit now that we were a little on the awkward side). I was almost always class favorite and on the homecoming court, and my senior year, I was voted Homecoming Queen. John didn’t quite connect with me on that end, and I could definitely understand because I wasn’t always the most simple, realistic type of person I am today.
J instead connected with me on a much higher, more well-respected level. John was himself all the time I knew him. Sometimes, unlike me.
John cared for me and respected me as a person, not because of what I was or what I did.
And J encouraged me. He showed me that despite the fact my family lived in public housing, that my mom was a single mom with four kids and the fact some of my clothes were from yard sales, that I could be happy with who I was.
At his funeral it was said he married and loved his wife and her six children as if they were his own. He loved to fish and was faithful to his job. He had accepted Jesus as his Savior and had joined a church.
Sometimes you wonder why God takes the best of the bunch from this earth, and other times you wonder if it is God.
I can’t say I readily have those answers, or if I would even attempt to answer them for someone else, but what I do know is John was one heck of a person and I thank him so much for everything he ever taught me.
I admire his mother and family for bringing up such a gentleman who really loved everyone.
Rest in peace, man.

Counterfeit money has a tendency to pop up in Ozark every now and then, and sometimes it’s hard to detect unless the clerk runs that weird little marker across it.
Two people were charged with possession of forged instruments in the first degree on Monday. According to a police report, Gregory Rhymes, 22, and Jelvit Rhymes, 32, used counterfeit money to make small purchases at Dollar General on Monday.
No other information was immediately available.
