To decide, or not to on new high school location?

June 01, 2009

By Ebony Horton

City officials met with school board members in a working meeting on Monday to discuss when to hold the ad valorem referendum for 10 mills, as well as when to decide on locating the school at either the existing site or a site on Roy Parker Road. The consensus appeared to be to hire a political consultant at the next school board meeting (June 11) to help with the decisions.
The 10 mills are expected to bring in about $750,000 or $800,000 in order to fund an $11 million debt service. Options on holding the referendum are in either September or early next year. Ultimately the additional tax would cost taxpayers the same amount for a canned soda a day, city schools Superintendent Mike Lenhart said.
It appears more meetings, more than likely private ones in executive session, will take place between the city leaders before a decision is made on both the referendum date and the site location.
As always, the Eagle will keep you posted.
