Workers escaped injuries during a fire at an Ozark fuel station on Wednesday, but the source of the fire had yet to be found.
According to Ozark Police Chief Tony Spivey, emergency and fire crews were dispatched to Colliers on US 231 around 1:15 p.m. in response to a fire that spread to the top of the building.
Spivey said the few workers in the facility escaped with no injuries and that the fire did not spread to any of the fuel pumps.
“A state fire marshal is en route to determine the cause. Luckily the only damage here appears to be from smoke, heat and water,“ Spivey said.
Spivey said damage was mainly contained in the attic and roof part of the building.
The fire remained under investigation.

The Ozark traffic light system at the Gilland intersection has been fully installed. Ozark Police Chief Tony Spivey said traffic has run smoothly since the installation.
At Camilla Avenue, residents can no longer cross the median to go south toward Dothan because of the road improvements there. The intersection is where Dale County Head Football Coach Todd Horne was killed in a collision in July 2008.

Ozark Make a Difference Day a success

By Ebony Horton

OZARK - Beautification projects took place throughout Ozark on Saturday as residents worked to make another Make A Difference Day worthwhile.
Organizers said projects at every school, at some parks, at Ed Lisenby Lake and the Flowers Center involved a number of volunteers from Ozark and Fort Rucker who helped clean and repair facilities. Volunteers said they met around 8 a.m. and worked until noon, when they were served lunch at St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Ozark.
Make a Difference Day co-chair Frank Phillips said this year also included a food and book drive for the Dale County Rescue Mission.
“The rescue mission has already expressed a need for extra food this Thanksgiving. The response in the past had been pretty incredible, so we were hopeful for the same success,” he said.
