Two people were injured when their vehicle hit a tree that eyewitnesses said was struck down by lightning, Dale County officials said on Friday.
Dale County Emergency Management Director Robert Marsh said reports were that two people were transported with serious injuries after their vehicle collided with a tree on Dale County Road 64, east of Skipperville.
Marsh said their names were not immediately available.
Marsh said the incident appeared the only one directly related to inclement weather expected to flow through Dale County this weekend.
There is a 70 percent chance of thunderstorms for Ozark both Saturday and Sunday, according to the National Weather Service Tallahassee, Fla., office.
“People do not need to get out in the weather during a thunderstorm,” Marsh said.
Skipperville volunteer fire and rescue departments and Echo fire and rescue departments responded to the wreck, Marsh said.
