Delectable Edibles, indeed

I first discovered Delectable Edibles when it was a gourmet food shop hidden in the Shops on the Circle.

A friend’s mom (Hi Mrs. Nolin!) got me hooked on a Key lime cheeseball mix she had discovered at the store. So off I went to stock up on the yummy cheese ball mix, and in the middle of all the dips and mixes and treats was ... food! Good food! So it became a ritual for me that a trip to TJ Maxx also included one of Delectable Edibles’ tasty chicken salad croissants and maybe a handful of those chocolate-covered strawberries.

I was a little saddened to hear the store was no longer in its little hole but am happy for the owners that Delectable Edibles has now expanded into a full-service restaurant with a full-sized menu.

My favorite thing about the restaurant didn’t change when it moved to the former home of Grate Things: the price. All the sandwiches, wraps, salads, soups, pizzas and pastas are less than $7. My favorite, the chicken salad on a croissant with chips, is $4.99. That’s hard to beat these days.

The store still sells gourmet food, little trinkets, take-home casseroles, lots of desserts and has greatly expanded the menu to something more fitting of a
sit-down restaurant.

I raided the old location one day for lunch and brought back food to the newsroom. My co-worker Whitney and I loaded ourselves with chicken salad sandwiches and baked potato soup, which is very tasty. For dessert, I attempted to clean out the store. I bought chocolate-covered cherries, strawberries, pretzels, Oreos. We ate them all and nearly passed out from sugar overload. You name it and Delectable Edibles has dipped it in chocolate. Funny enough, on the store’s Web site is this sentence: “Anything is good dipped in chocolate!!! Especially fruit!”

On a trip to the new store, my aunt and I had lunch there. We had a very tasty, reasonably priced lunch, and I was happy to see that the dining room was full. I had the chicken salad sandwich, of course, and my aunt had a chicken salad plate. We finished off our lunch with a muffin.

The store now stays open until 7:30 during the week and serves a Sunday lunch.

So even if you can’t stay for lunch or dinner, check out the fun stuff they sell in the front. And don’t forget to pick up the Key lime cheeseball mix. That alone is worth the trip.
