For good food from A-Z, hop on over to New Brockton
I enjoy fine dining. I admit it. I know economic conditions are tough right now, but I believe the one thing we can indulge ourselves in from time to time is good food with friends and family.
My favorite food, above all, is a finely prepared and perfectly cooked steak. If you can find that in a restaurant, you can rest assured, usually, the other dishes follow suit.
Such is the case at Frogz Restaurant in New Brockton. Everyone told me they were awesome. No one I know who has been there could say anything but wonderful things about the food and the staff. So I knew it was time for me to try them and let you know my findings.
Their menu is diverse, ranging from A to Z — literally, alligator to zucchini. Mind you, I’m not the least bit interested in alligator tail, no, not even to try. But I can pretty much guarantee that if that is your thing then this would be the place to come have some.
I ordered the black angus filet, medium-well, and it was served with roasted red potatoes and seasonal vegetables that included squash, zucchini, more potatoes and eggplant.
They also had “off the menu,” Oysters Rockefeller that my dining guest ordered. It came with the same sides.
As we waited, we were treated to a salad, full of pineapple, strawberries, onion and lettuce with a tangy/sweet dressing. That was a very nice touch and a change from the usual tossed variety. Alongside that were yeast rolls with a wonderful herbed butter that wasn’t too much of anything, it was a perfect blend of herbs that weren’t overpowering to the butter or the roll.
I must say, if people are so inclined, and I am, I believe that alongside steak or seafood at a fine dining establishment — no matter where you are in the world — one should be able to enjoy a fine chardonnay or cabernet with their entrée. However, due to the present state of liquor laws in Coffee County, that was forbidden. Even though I consider myself non-political, I say: God gave us a free will to choose, and if He did, then who do the “powers that be” think they are to not give us a choice? Good grief.
Regardless, the food is impeccable. Perfect portions and perfectly cooked. Neither I, nor my guest left Frogz overwhelmed with guilt or in need of a wheelbarrow to carry our stomachs out in. As a matter of fact we were able to even order dessert. And what desserts they were.
Believe it or not, here, in the Wiregrass area, I had chocolate-hazelnut crème brulee which was perfect in every way (sorry, I really can’t say anything negative about anything I ate here, and neither could my guest) and my friend had the strawberry topped, New York-style cheesecake.
So my advice to anyone would be to make a special trip to New Brockton. It is well-worth the drive. It’s a tad pricey for some, but I believe for special occasions, or if you have a nice yearly income, it is the perfect place to go to dine. Thanks Frogz!
