New farmers’ market promotes local produce, crafts
Published: May 19, 2009
An open air market sponsored by The Downtown Group is being held in Dothan on Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. to noon in June and July, including July 4.
This rain-or-shine event is being organized to become an annual gathering for the public to purchase locally-produced and hand-crafted items. Wiregrass area farmers and producers from within 50 miles of Dothan, including Georgia and Florida, will sell from under white tents in the parking area of the Dothan Civic Center with food producers from downtown restaurants being located on Museum Avenue and local artisans on the grounds of the Wiregrass Museum of Art.
Each Saturday at 10 a.m. in Poplar Head Park there will be a variety of entertainment ranging from live music to chef’s demonstrations, beekeeping, and information on canning and preserving. Representatives from the Wiregrass Museum of Art and Houston-Love Memorial Library will locate on the museum grounds to offer free activities to children accompanied by an adult.
For information on the market, contact Julie Bishop at 794-7409 or read about it at http://www.thedowntowngroup.com/farmersmarket or the Poplar Head Farmers Market group on Facebook.
