Benjamin Franklin once said, “Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.”

I know this fact because I read it on some guy’s T-shirt one time.

Of course, Franklin was known for prancing about in electrical storms with kites and metal, so his judgment could be called into question.

However, if Franklin was correct, then chicken wings are further evidence of a benevolent creator.

Getting to the point of probably the most bizarre and lengthy intro to a restaurant review ever written, you can soak up a lot of divine love at Oscar’s Bar and Grill in Enterprise.

One of the most popular night spots in Enterprise, Oscar’s offers great food and good atmosphere and entertainment.

Oscar’s sports stuff and other memorabilia gives the establishment the feel of a friendly neighborhood tavern, but with its own unique identity, avoiding the bland sameness the various O’Generic’s Irish Pubs that dot strip malls throughout America.

“It’s just the place to be,” Fitz Lee, Oscar’s cook, said.

The food is typical bar and grill fare: burgers, cheesesteak, sandwiches, quesadillas, and of course, chicken wings.

The secret of cooking the perfect chicken wing is one of balance. You have to hit the golden mean somewhere between crispiness and juiciness.

Oscar’s hit the balance just right. The 12 wings I ordered were so good I ordered 24 more for the road.

The prices were a little more than I usually shell out for wings; my meal and three beers cost about $33.88 plus tip, but the cost was well worth it.

I also have to give some props to the staff. Server Gabby Terry greeted me almost the second I entered the restaurant and was friendly and helpful.

I visited Oscar’s on Monday, which apparently is one of their slower nights. Lee told me Oscar’s is busier on Wednesday’s when the restaurant has 25-cent wings. Fridays also draw a big crowd when Oscar’s has burgers for 99 cents.

In addition to the food and drinks, Oscar’s also has a variety of entertainment options. On Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, Oscar’s has Texas Hold ’Em poker tournaments. On weekends, there’s live music and karaoke.

Summing up, you don’t have to invent bifocals or sign the Declaration of Independence to be smart enough to realize that Oscar’s is a great place for good times and good food.
