Sweet Briar off to good start

Area entrepreneurs and restaurateurs please take note: Enterprise has good places to eat, but there’s always room for more good restaurants and for a greater variety of cuisine to choose from.

The city could use just about everything and anything: more steakhouses, seafood, and a Thai place would be very nice. Hint, hint.

So, needless to say, I welcomed the news when I found out there was a new place to eat in Boll Weevil City.

Neither I nor my guest had been there yet, but we both had heard good things about the Sweet Briar restaurant. A relatively new establishment in town, they are open for lunch only, Monday through Friday, and from all appearances look to be off to a great start.

We arrived a little past noon, and the place was already full of hungry patrons. So after a brief wait, we were seated. The staff bent over backwards to make sure we were greeted and seated quickly, which was very considerate for the lunch hour crowd.

They provide several items to choose from, including chicken salad, which I tried a sample of and immediately fell in love with. They have subs, BLT’s, roast beef sandwiches, and even a loaded baked potato.

There is a daily cafeteria line as well, which is what my guest chose, which consisted of barbecued chicken, steak fingers, butter beans, corn bread, rolls, turnips, corn bread dressing and mashed potatoes. The drink and delicious peach cobbler were included. My guest wanted me to let you know that she enjoyed the barbecue sauce so much that she cleaned up her plate with a little bit of a roll. It must have been mighty good.

I had the club sandwich, which came with ham, turkey, bacon, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, with mayo on the side, fries and a drink. My special request to have my bread not toasted was granted. For dessert, I took home a piece of home-made chocolate peanut butter cake. It was divine.

Everything was fresh and delicious, and it seemed as though business was booming for them even on a rainy day. My meal was under $6 (dessert was $3.25) and the cafeteria line was under $7. The Sweet Briar has a lot of good food to serve in a short amount of time. It’s well worth a visit, and several return visits as well.
