Legends finishes contest Thursday

The Karaoke Contest at Legends concludes Thursday when 17 finalists perform. Proceeds from the $3 per person and $5 per couple admission price will be donated to the March of Dimes. For more information, call 792-5797.

Anger management workshop offered

Jim Powell, a national consultant in anger resolution and adjunct instructor at Wallace Community College in Dothan, will conduct an Anger Management workshop at Lurleen B.  Salvation Army Christmas Drive begins

The Salvation Army Christmas Drive is under way in Dothan with kettles placed around town for donations and the Angel Tree placed at Wiregrass Commons Mall on Nov. 15 to provide toys for children this Christmas. Donations to the Salvation Army are used for services to help the needy.

Antique jewelry show includes appraisals

Karen Masters of Rome, Ga., will exhibit her collection of vintage and antique jewelry at the Antique Attic in Dothan. She will also conduct a seminar on antique jewelry and appraise antique jewelry during her three-day show and sale, Nov. 15-17.

Therapeutic center expands

Sumlar Therapy Services will hold an open house thursday, 3-8 p.m. to give the public a chance to tour their expanded facility and learn more about services to help children with disabilities, including riding, aquatic and speech therapy. They also plan to offer after-school tutoring. The center is located at 193 Sam Lisenby Road in Ozark. For more information, call (334) 445-6336.

Toys for Tots Foundation provides Christmas presents

Community registration for the second Annual Toys For Tots program in Houston County will be held on Nov. 16 from 9 a.m.-noon at the Houston County Department of Human Resources, 1605 Ross Clark Circle; also on Dec. 6t from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Dothan City Schools Head Start program at 900 West Powell Street. The event is provided by the Marine Corps League Wiregrass Detachment, Alfred Saliba Family Services Center, the Houston County Department of Human Resources and the Dothan City Schools Head Start program.

Fall Expressions Show is Friday and Saturday

The Dothan Wiregrass Art League presents its Fall Expressions Show Nov. 16-17, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Cultural Arts Center Ballroom. A social event for participants is Nov. 16, 4 p.m. Awards for the best booth will be announced at the social. All members are invited.

Art on display at Antique Attic

Child support round up under way

Anyone who owes child support in Coffee County must pay now. The District Attorney’s Office and the Doffee County Department of Human Resources will conduct a child support round up during November and December and if you haven’t paid, you will go to jail. New interactive resources available to help smokers quit

The American Cancer Society will celebrate the 31st anniversary of the Great American Smokeout on Nov. 15. Americans who smoke and want to quit to are urged to call the American Cancer Society's Quitline, a clinically proven, free telephone-based counseling program, at 1-800-ACS-2345, or to log on to www.cancer.org/greatamericans, to embark on a personal plan to quit. Studies have shown that more than 40 percent of people who were contacted six months after completing the Quitline program remained smoke-free, which puts the Society's quit rates among the highest in the industry. The Great American Smokeout Web site (www.cancer.org/greatamericans) will feature new desktop helpers, including a Quit Clock and a Craving Stopper. These tools can be downloaded to a computer desktop to help smokers pick a quit day, prepare for quitting, and offer support during and after quitting.
