Landmark Park’s annual Heritage Forums, a series of guest speakers offering programs on state and local history, will begin on Sunday, July 5, at 3 p.m. with “The Circumstances Surrounding the Creation of Houston County,” presented by T. Larry Smith.
Smith, a sixth generation and lifetime resident of Henry County, will explore the circumstances surrounding the creation of Houston County. Smith is a writer, historical investigator and the official historian of Henry County.
The programs will take place each Sunday in July at 3 p.m. in the Interpretive Center at Landmark Park. Programs are free with paid admission to the park — $4 for adults, $3 for children ages 4-15, free for members and children 3 and under. Space is limited and reservations are required.
Other topics in the series include “Outlaws in Alabama” on July 12, “The Encyclopedia of Alabama” on July 19 and “Preserving Alabama Graveyards” on July 26. Continuing education units and professional development hours can be earned by attending these programs.
Landmark Park, home of the Alabama Agricultural Museum, is a 100-acre historical and natural science park located on U.S. Highway 431 North in Dothan, Ala. For more information and to register for a program, call 794-3452.
