Published: December 9, 2009
A husband-and-wife writing team have published a book chronicling the history of the Mount Enon cemetery in Dale County.
Jacob Randolph Snell, a native of the community, and his wife, Marvis R. Snell, spent six years researching and collecting information from public records and 97 descendants of early pioneer families for “The Mount Enon Cemetery: A Pioneer Cemetery in Dale County, Alabama, First Called Beverett Graveyard.” The 203-page hardbound book tells the story of the rural Mount Enon community in Dale County through its 180 years of history. The authors researched the lives of everyone associated with the community’s historic cemetery, located between Midland City and Echo. The book features accounts of early migration into southeastern Alabama and details daily life in the rural community over the decades. One hundred forty-eight historical and family photos and detailed illustrations bring this unique local history to life.
The Dale County Genealogical and Historical Society recently donated a copy to the Ozark-Dale County Public Library. For more information on how to order, visit Snell Publishing at http://www.snellpublishing.com or call (941) 722-3846. The book can also be found on amazon.com.
