Peanut stacking held at Landmark Park in Dothan
Published: September 23, 2009
On Saturday, Sept. 26, Landmark Park will host a monthly farm program on peanut stacking at 10 a.m. and again at 2 p.m. on the Wiregrass Farmstead.
Participants will gather at the Wiregrass Farmstead and farm manager Sid Brannon and Landmark Park volunteer Charlie Nelson will demonstrate stacking peanuts the old-fashioned way. In the late 1800s, farmers in the Wiregrass would use mules to plow peanuts. They would shake the dirt off the plants and stack them in the field to dry.
The program is free with paid admission to the park ($4 for adults, $3 for children 4-15, free for members and children 3 and under). Registration is required.
For more information and to register for a program, contact the park at 794-3452.
