Three girls escaped from DOVE Vocational Academy for female juveniles near Graceville early Wednesday evening. Tracking dogs were being dispatched in the search for the runaways around 6:30 p.m. after a witness reported seeing them run across a yard on Country Lane.

Geneva County Sheriff’s investigators said a BB gun accident Wednesday afternoon left a 10-year-old Malvern boy seriously injured.

The boy suffered a serious wound to the chest after the gun accidentally fired while his 18-year-old brother played with the gun, said Investigator Ben Berry. The boy, who has not been identified, was in serious condition at Southeast Alabama Medical Center, Berry said.

Dothan police arrested a 25-year-old Dothan man Wednesday and charged him with 10 felony counts of third-degree burglary, according to Dothan City Jail records.

Houston County Sheriff’s investigators arrested a 42-year-old Dothan man Tuesday and charged him with sexually assaulting a teenage girl and possession of child pornography, according to information from Sheriff’s Capt. Antonio Gonzalez.

Cops stormed a South Park Avenue home shortly after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday looking for the suspect in a shooting a short distance away, but the suspect was not inside.

Dothan police, Houston County sheriff’s deputies, and the FBI had surrounded the house along South Park Avenue after a person was shot in the chest outside a nearby home.

Sheriff’s chase leads to arrest

Houston County Sheriff’s deputies chased a suspect on a motorcycle, in an SUV and finally on foot before apprehending him behind a Dothan apartment complex.

Dothan man charged with attempted murder

Dothan police recently arrested a 24-year-old Dothan man on allegations he shot another man in the leg last month, according to police reports.

Bobby Jermaine Register, of Denton Road, was charged with attempted murder after the shooting on May 31 left Shaimon Tyson severely injured. A patrol officer found Tyson unconscious in the 100 block of Plant Street with a gunshot wound to his upper left leg. A passerby reported Tyson’s body around 3:40 a.m., and apparently thought he was passed out drunk, police previously released.

Attempted murder charge dropped against Dothan man

A Houston County District Court judge found insufficient evidence in the attempted murder case filed against a 36-year-old Dothan man Friday for it to be forwarded to the grand jury for an indictment.

A Houston County District Court Judge has forwarded a sexual assault case involving a 12-year-old girl to the grand jury to consider for an           indictment.

License suspended, clients lost for counselor charged with sex abuse

Officials said the license of an Enterprise counselor who was charged with sexually abusing one of his clients has been suspended while an investigation continues, and local human resource offices are no longer allowed to refer patients to the man’s company.
According to the state Department of Human Resources, Independent Counseling and Assessment Services in Enterprise no longer receives DHR clients since the sexual abuse arrest of 51-year-old Virgil Allen Freet of Ozark.

Woman charged with exploiting assets of woman with disability, investigation ongoing

OZARK — A Dale County sheriff’s investigation continues into a woman who is believed to have used at least one woman with a disability for money.
Dale County Chief Sheriff’s Investigator Harvey Mathis said Hannah Ledbetter, 23, of Mixon School Road in Ozark was charged with exploitation of assets of a protected person after she tricked the woman into giving her money on at least five different occasions.

Hobo Pantry robbed on Denton Road

A masked man robbed a Hobo Pantry convenience store early Thursday morning, according to a statement released by the Dothan Police Department.

Headland teen charged in paddle-like assault

Authorities released a 16-year-old Headland boy from custody Tuesday after he’d been charged with repeatedly striking another teenager on the head with a paddle-like weapon, said Sheriff William Maddox.
