A Florida judge has set bonds for the two people charged in connection with the disappearance of 7-month-old Shannon Lea Dedrick, and ordered them to have no contact with each other or the child.
Judge Colby Peel set a $75,000 bond for Crystina Lynn Mercer, mother of the baby. A $150,000 bond was set for Susan Baker, baby Shannon’s aunt who also served as the baby sitter.
The two are charged with multiple felonies and misdemeanors in connection with baby Shannon’s disappearance. She was found alive and healthy inside a cedar chest under a bed in the Baker residence Wednesday night. Authorities believe the two conspired to hide the baby, then concocted a fake story about her disappearance.
Mercer, dressed in tan prison overalls, said nothing during the 3-minute arraingment other than she understood the charges against her. Baker indicated the same. Formal charges are scheduled to be presented to the two on Dec. 14.
Peel ordered that neither person have contact with the child or each other, should they make bond. Prosecutors asked for a higher bond for Baker due to a prior arrest for aggravated battery in connection with her missing stepson, who has not been found since he went missing in 1987.
