How do you make children account for their actions when laws are designed to protect them? I never said it was a case of bullying, but in most cases like this the root of the problem has been bullying. Parents and school administration don’t or can’t help so the student has to figure it out for themselves. Bullets and guns are just like drugs; kids can get them if they want them. We as adults must protect our children. They know it is wrong, but don’t know how to fix the problem. Imagine being so unhappy that you would take a life, or be willing to take your own. Now compound the fact that you are forced to go to that place daily and repeatedly abused by others. Our taxes pay for our children’s education. It should be a safe and secure environment free from gun, bullets, knives and weapons. If that environment becomes so hazardous that a student is willing to take a weapon something needs to change in the environment. Do we try to save lives before the incident gets out of hand, or do we punish the child because he or she did not know where to turn and tried to fix the problem for themselves?
To begin with, I did not read where the article stated anything about someone being bullied. It simply stated that someone had threatened bullets for certain boys. I am unsure why we immediatly want to blame our educators on the problems with our children. Furthermore, where does a high school kid gain access to bullets or guns? Having said all this, if we want to place blame, who sold a kid bullets? Who left bullets accessible for a kid to obtain? So, in other words, lets quit trying to place blame and figure out the root of the problem as to why he would want to place that type of harm on others….........Until our children are made to be accountable for their actions, these types of incidents are going to continue to occur.
How does Gubberforlife know the administration is doing the best they can? If this is a case of bullying, what say you about the students doing the bullying? If it were your child, would you still feel the same? Things have to be pretty bad for a student to want to take a weapon to defend themself. I am at a disadvantage as folks seem to have more information and knowledge on this subject than I. Maybe gubberforlife and anyone who has more information on this subject could bring the public up to date on this important issue?
I hope all the things that CHSMom says are true. Her post suggests that the school may not have been such a great place two years ago. If the new principal is doing things to clean-up the school then I retract my firing statement. Good education administrators are rare today because of the salaries involved. I know very little about the school system here and can only draw conclusions based on the limited information from the story and my information provided by past students. My belief is that schools are a place for education first and foremost. If there is something that prevents a student from receiving that education, then it must be investigated and repaired if possible. The responsibility should fall upon parents with the teachers and administration supporting and advising. For many students who do not continue their education, this may be their glory days and the memories should be positive. I doubt the school experience has been positive for the student who has bullets for certain boys. I am sure that it is not getting any better now that he has become infamous. Maybe CHSMom can add additional information to this story as it appears she has a good relationship with not only the administration, but with her student as well.
I am sorry but the Administration is doing the best they can to keep the school under control. Our school is big and there are alot of students at Carroll High this year. I say The boy should be punished but not the Administration.
I do not agree with “the principal should be fired”...I know for a fact that the principal does not tolerate any type of behavior of the such. I am sure that all Administrators involved with this situation are handling it in the most appropriate, swiftly and legal way possible. CHS has gone through some major changes over the past 2 years, and I have to comment on how the changes have been for the better. I am no longer worried about my child attending CHS, I know that the current Administration and teachers there have the best interest of my child and all the others there at heart. Kudos CHS on all the positive changes that have and are taking place. GO CHS!!!!
Guns, bullets and school do not mix. I am not saying this is a case of bullying, but if it is; the principal should be fired and the certain boys suspended. If a student thinks he has to bring a gun to school to protect himself, then it is not a safe place for our children. I hope we get more information as the story does not give much information.
