A Cottonwood man received a 15-year sentence for trafficking methamphetamine in the Madrid community.

According to court records, Houston County Circuit Court Judge Brad Mendheim sentenced Gene Chandler Elliott Jr., 31, to serve three years in prison for felony second-degree receiving stolen property and 15 years in prison for felony trafficking meth. Records show the sentence for the two crimes will run concurrently, not consecutively.

Records show Houston County Sheriff’s investigators charged Elliott with being in possession of more than 2 ounces of meth in the 800 block of Decatur Road in Madrid on Nov. 6, 2008. Elliott was also charged with possessing a stolen 2004 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle that belonged to a Slocomb resident on the same day as the meth charge.
