Coffee County Sheriff Dave Sutton stands watch outside a burned out Kinston, Ala., home Wednesday, March 11, 2009, where a gunman believed to be Michael McLendon lived with his mother Lisa. McLendon began his shooting rampage here Tuesday, killing his mother and setting her house on fire before killing at least 9 others on a rampage across several South Alabama counties.
The gunman who killed 11 people, including himself, may have been planning his shooting spree for a while.

Coffee County District Attorney Gary McAliley said more than 20 empty ammunition boxes, lots of military and survival gear, and lots of medical supplies were found in Michael McLendon’s home in Kinston, where he killed his mother and set the house on fire before driving to Samson and killing 9 other people.
“We have gone through the house where it all started,” McAliley said Wednesday afternoon. “It’s obvious to me he had planned doing this kind of thing and had for some time.”
Though the house was set on fire, authorities were able to find several items in the remains, including a list of people he had worked with at Kelley Foods who had “done him wrong,” and what they had done, like reporting him for not wearing his ear plugs or cutting meat too thin. McLendon had recently quit his job there. His mother recently lost her job at Pilgrim’s Pride.
According to a statement from Erik Ennis, human resources manager at Kelley Foods, McLendon “was employed from July 27, 2007, until he voluntarily quit on Wednesday of last week.
“Michael by nature was a quiet person that never had very much to say. He just did his job,” the statement read. “He was liked by his co-workers and worked well with others.”
Other things found on lists in McLendon’s home were specific sites, including Kelley Foods, Pilgrim’s Pride, and Reliable Products, which is where McLendon took his own life after exchanging gunfire with police. McAliley said McLendon also had a list with the names of eight area attorneys, all of whom will be contacted to see what they know about McLendon
“Apparently, he had his mind on talking to a lawyer,” he said.
McAliley said neighbors reported that McLendon was often out behind his house firing weapons, and had a list of weapons he was trying to buy. During the shooting spree, McLendon was armed with four guns, including two assault rifles.
“He was apparently very good with his guns,” he said.
And McLendon was apparently often the target of ridicule about his weight. McAliley said he was teased and referred to as “dough boy.” Court records show he was 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighed more than 200 pounds.
Junior Chambers, a neighbor of the McLendons, said he spoke with Michael McLendon about an hour before the shootings began.
“Lisa McLendon had left me a note about plowing up her garden for her,” Chambers said. “She said her tiller was broken, so I went up to the house around 2 p.m. Michael was there and a maroon car was sitting in the driveway. I told him about his mother wanting me to till up the garden and we walked to the back of the house and I looked at the tiller. We just talked about the garden. He seemed fine. He didn’t seem like anything was out of the ordinary, but I didn’t see Lisa at all.”
Chambers said about an hour later, “a man driving by their house saw smoke and he came up to my house and was blowing the horn. He told me their house was on fire and I told him to call 911 and then I drove down there. I saw smoke and flames coming out of a window where the living room was. We didn’t know anyone was at home.”
Officials said the Ino and Kinston Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the fire call and one of the firemen discovered Lisa McLendon’s body.

Reader Reactions
We should put comforting comments not negative ones. Some of the family members may want to read them. They are going through enough right now. So be positive because the nation are reading theses comments. He who winks with the eye causes trouble. But a prating fool will fall. The mouth of the righteous is a well of life,But violence covers the mouth of the wicked. Hatred stirs up strife, But love covers all sins. Proverbs 10:10-12
So in other words we all make mistakes and the natural reaction to any offense is anger. But if we want things to work we must learn to apply love not bitterness to the wounds we suffer. I still say my smyphathy goes out to all involved and not involved in those to cities. They need us our love prayers, thoughts, and well wishes
im glad i have more important things to do with my time than to think a gun done trhis and critisize other peoples opinion
janlam, why should i state the obvious. we all know he had a problem . we all also know friends and family are in pain.To continue repeating what is so clear to everyone would be foolish. That point has been clearly established. Now move on to other possibilities as to why, other than what we already know. And what are the possible future ramifications of this event.I can see you’re more of an emotional person than a logical person.Of course theres nothing wrong with being like that.
mrhunter, This was a sad, sick man - who is now dead. He had, and still has, family and friends. It seems obvious that your first thoughts weren’t sadness for the people involved in this tragedy. Your thoughts were ‘theories’ of the CIA, gun control, Democrats… Hmmm…wonder what kind of person would have called him names and made fun of him…
Knowledge is power. Keep repeating this message over and over and over from now until eternity (It’s okay to get help!) .... Through our schools, in our homes, through the media, in our government and through government funding. More financial support is given to Diabetes and Cancer Research than mental health yet more people are affected by mental health issues than both those groups combined.

davida, its probably best that you bow out, when you engage in a battle of wits then its always advisible to bring ammunition to the encounter , which obviously you dont have.
March on Mr Hunter. I’ll bow out and let the other readers evaluate your theories and conjecture. I still maintain your an idoit to bring up CIA and political parties in this thought.
DavidA out.
davida, history dictates that alot of people with theories initially considered to be idiots were later proven to be right. Thats why they call them theories.heres the defination of theory in case you dont know what it means.
An assumption based on limited information or knowledge; a conjecture.
Your an idiot to even post something like this and not very sensitive to the families or community.
I propose this man was a manchurian candidate (operative) for the CIA. Probably controlled by the corrupt democratic party and “triggered” to gain support for obamas banning attempt of assault weapons.
Davida, which comment. the first was a theory . Which everyone has unless they’ve released a possible motive. The second was an opinion, which i’m still positive will turn into a fact. I cant help you dont agree , but thats your prerogative. I never said this wasnt a sad tragic episode, i dont think theres any question what has taken place is terrible.Thats a given, without reaffirming.
