Dale County man killed in home invasion
A Daleville man died Sunday night from the injuries he suffered from an invasion at his home by men who carried guns, including an apparent “machine gun.”
A statement from the Level Plains Police Chief L.A. Bonds said officers responded around 8:15 p.m. to a residence on Dale County Road 109 in Level Plains to a report of two men with guns having entered the home.
According to witnesses the gunmen demanded the location of the drugs and money in the home, and at some point during the incident a man in the home was shot to death. There were two women in the home, but they were not injured.
Dale County Coroner Woody Hilboldt said he pronounced Marcus Blackmon, 43, dead around 9:30 p.m. Hilboldt said Blackmon appeared to have died from a single gunshot wound to the chest. Hilboldt said he found Blackmon dead on the floor of the den in his home.
No arrests had been made in the slaying as of early Monday morning.
Officers from the Dale County Sheriff’s Office and the Daleville Department of Public Safety responded to the shooting death. Bonds said in the statement the homicide investigation was turned over to Detectives with the Dale County Sheriff’s Office.
