Dothan woman charged with alcohol related murder from fatality
Authorities say a Dothan woman was under the influence of alcohol when she lost control of the vehicle she was driving at an intersection, taking the life of another woman.
Dothan police investigators arrested Shanequa Renae Gibson, 22, of Denton Road, on Thursday and charged her with murder for the death of Brittany Meink Hill. Gibson was released from the Houston County Jail on Thursday after she posted a $75,000 bond.
Hill, of Fourth Avenue, who was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Gibson, died on Nov. 6 in a single-vehicle crash. It happened around 11:45 p.m. near the intersection of Bracewell Avenue and Stonebridge Road.
There were at least two other people in the vehicle, including Brandon Dozier, 17, and Komeshion Williams, 21, but they were not seriously injured.
Dothan Police Officer Thomas Davis, the department’s public information officer, said Gibson was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
Houston County District Attorney Doug Valeska said it was nearly a month before charges were filed because investigators had waited for the results of the analysis of Gibson’s blood. Valeska declined to comment on Gibson’s blood alcohol content.
“She was driving a Ford Explorer and lost control of the vehicle,” Valeska said. “She was going faster than the speed limit, she ran the stop and she told the officer she’d had two beers.”
Valeska said he did not have to prove Gibson intentionally killed anyone, only that it was an extreme indifference to human life and a reckless murder.
“The bottom line is don’t drink and drive,” Valeska said.

Actually if someones BAC is .075 three hours after the fact then you can add another .015 for each hour making this drivers actual BAC .120. According to the Alabama Penal Law .120 BAC is defined as “Significant impairment of motor coordination and loss of good judgment. Speech may be slurred; balance, peripheral vision, reaction time, and hearing will be impaired”. The bottom line is DONT DRINK AND DRIVE.
Right it was .075 2 hours ateast if not longer before they tested her and if u read what i wrote earlier You lose 15% of the alcohol in your system every hour meaning she could not have been tested for at 2 of those hours seeing that she was trapped in the vehicle for 70 mins and then has to get to hospital so that is atleast 30% more if they tested her 2 hrs after the wreck
A .75 BAC, really? She would have been, if not dead, unconscience. Perhaps it was a .075? If that was the case, she was actually under the legal limit.
I understand COMPLETELY. I will be in contact soon. God bless you and your family…
MOM I know you were not directing that judgement towards me. I know excatly what you mean’t. I was voicing my thoughts on the post as do others. I feel this is a tragedy for all concerned. We will never know the why’s of it. Too soon for our loved 1 to die. Thanyou also for your prayers for OUR family and kind words. I want you to have my email address if u want to contact me. Somethings i do not wish to express on here.Auntyboo123@yahoo.com is my email if you are interested. God bless us all.
To Meinks Aunt….I am very very sorry for your family’s loss. You are very much correct in saying that she should not have drove drunk. As far as the comments about judging people, I was simply referring to the comments about not being able to read, when the first article that was printed did not state why she was arrested. To lose a loved one in any way is very hard. But I know that it has to make it only harder when there’s a loss due to drunken driving among other things. I pray that God is with your family during this time. I agree with you that this young lady will probably never want to drink again. It’s just too bad that it took something like this to show that drinking and driving don’t mix.
I don’t see sarcasim or judgement The fact is that .75 was the alcohol level of this driver at the time they tested her which was approximatly 2 hrs after the wreck seeing as how it took almost 1 1/2 hr to free her from the vechile. evey hour not drinking your body loses 15% of the alcohol you can do the math on this. Driving about 45 mph as her family was told by a passenger in the vechile is hard to believe also seeing as how the light pole was broke in half. This wasn’t an accident altho not done intentional If u can’t handle your Booze maybe you shouldn’t be drinking and you sure should not be driving period. I am sure that the driver is hurting as is her family But at least she can say i love you MOM or hug her loved ones. Do we have the right to judge as Meinks family You damn right we do. But we try not to We are just praying for strength and Guidance as we go thru the healing process that is very slow in coming. As Meink paid a price for making a choice not to wear her seat belt that night also the driver must by for her choice to drive under the influence. If i was her i would never want to touch alcohol again. Hope she don’t. Meinks Aunt Belinda
Thank you DavidA! The first article DID NOT state why she was arrested. I can read thank you very much. Seems like the smart comments from the others come from people who like to judge others too quickly. Hopefully you all will never be in the position of being judged too quickly…
When this story was first posted it was only about one and a half paragraphs. I was wondering the same thing. It was obviously changed after it was posted.
To (Mom)... maybe you should get someone to READ this article to you and explain to you what you don’t understand. It doesn’t seem that confusing to me.
