Napier Field and Midland City Police are seen outside a home on Flight Line Drive Wednesday afternoon.
Police arrested a 42-year-old former Napier Field mayor Wednesday after law enforcement from two departments were called to a domestic dispute involving guns.
Napier Field Police Chief Charles Duncan said former mayor Harold Hardamon, of Flightline Drive, Napier Field, was booked into the Dale County Jail on a misdemeanor third-degree domestic violence charge. Duncan said Hardamon would be held without bond for 12 hours on the domestic violence charge before a bond would be set.
Duncan said he was dispatched to a residence on Flightline Drive around 3 p.m. to a domestic incident where a brother had pulled a gun on another brother.
Duncan said the gunman retreated into the house and after officers arrived he emerged from the home with two loaded handguns. Duncan said Hardamon surrendered without incident.
Duncan said there were at least six other people with Hardamon when the incident happened. There were no reported injuries, and no shots were fired. He said the former mayor had a permit which made it legal for him to carry both handguns. Police seized both guns, a 9mm and Tek9, as evidence.
The investigation is ongoing and Duncan said he planned to consult with the Dale County District Attorney’s Office about any additional charges.
The Midland City Police Department assisted in the investigation.
“Both firearms were loaded and had it not been for (Midland City) Sgt. (Keith) Walker’s attention to detail it could’ve ended tragically,” Duncan said
