Houston County Sheriff’s arrest unregistered sex offender
Houston County Sheriff’s investigators arrested a North Carolina native on Monday on multiple failure to properly register as a convicted sex offender charges.
According to a statement released by Capt. Antonio Gonzalez, investigators arrested Derek T. Cantey and charged him with two counts of failure to notify authorities of a transfer of residence and documentation of identity.
The charges stemmed from a notification from authorities in Lenoir County, N.C., that Cantey possibly had been living on Fletcher Smith Road in Cottonwood.
According to the statement, a warrant was issued by North Carolina authorities for his arrest in May 2008, which charged him with failure to submit a change of address.
The Houston County Sheriff’s investigation showed Cantey had lived in Houston County since March 2008.
Cantey is being held in the Houston County Jail on a $15,000 bond per charge.
