Henry County Sheriff’s investigators arrested an Abbeville police officer on Monday, based on a criminal complaint that he choked a 15-year-old boy until he passed out.

According to a statement from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, investigators arrested 22-year-old Davey Jones on Monday after he turned himself in.

Henry County Sheriff William Maddox said the parents of the victim asked that the Henry County Sheriff’s Office handle the investigation because Jones is the son of Headland Police Chief Mark Jones.

The mother of the victim went to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office on Monday and signed a warrant charging Davey Jones with misdemeanor reckless endangerment. He was released from custody after he posted a $500 bond. Maddox called the crime a class A misdemeanor. According to the statement, Jones faces up to one year in jail, and up to a $6,000 fine if convicted.

Chad Sowell, a spokesperson for the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, said Davey Jones has worked for the Abbeville Police Department for about a year.

According to a statement from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a complaint that a 15-year-old boy was assaulted around 1 a.m. Saturday. Maddox said the parents filled out an incident report with a deputy on Saturday.

Maddox said the teenager did not require any medical treatment from the assault. Maddox did not know how long the victim was passed out before he came to.

“He was put to sleep ... ,” Maddox said. “I think he woke up, and was alright.”

Maddox said the assault happened at a Headland residence where Jones had stayed in the past.

“I think it was a group of teenagers gathered at somebody’s house,” Maddox said. “I think they got to horsing around, and things got out of hand.”

Maddox said there would likely be no more charges, and he considered the investigation closed.

According to a statement from Abbeville Police Chief Mike Jones, Davey Jones was placed on administrative leave without pay as a result of his arrest.

Headland Police Chief Mark Jones said the incident had nothing to do with his department in Headland. Mark Jones declined to talk about what happened Saturday night, except to say the teenagers showed up uninvited to the home where his son occasionally stayed overnight. He said his son already has an attorney, and the complete story would come out in court.

“I think the ABI should be called in to investigate it,” Mark Jones said. “There’s two sides to every story.”

When is Bobby Bright going to quit ducking us voters?  He didn’t do any in person town halls at all!  Bobby, are you afraid of us since you supported Nancy Pelosi and her Government takeover of health care.  If you continue to refuse to meet with us the voters we are going to get rid of you!!

Rodogo. You explained alot to me when you stated that “You are right, I do not live in that area, nor do I know the parties involved.“ Is that not proof of you uneducated opinion? And then your going to compare this as if it were equal to a stuation in Iraq! Do you comment on small town Iraqi newspapaer sites as well, or do you think this situation is equal to the entire situation of Iraq in which thousands of American soldiers have died to free an oppressed people. You are probably one of those who actually believe that no good comes from anything other than an extreme liberal agenday. Are you the shining light in the night that we should all follow, or are you just someone who has nothing better to do than comment on a small town newspaper site in a community that you don’t reside? (I hope my grammer teacher doesn’t read this… lol) If this was a national matter such as Iraq (one of the places that you don’t live) I would take your uninformed comment as valid. With that said, I do live in the area,,, I know both parties involved. I know there are two sides to the story. I know that the officer is innocent until proven guilty!! I know that the officer deserves all rights that the criminals that he protects us from get. I know your uninformed on the situation. You adminited it! I think that the only point of this comment was to state that if you keep to your own and everyone else does the same that all will be well. Things will sort themselves out. The silent majority is starting to awakin and good will overcome. Now I am off to comment on a story in Maumee Ohio where some kids spray painted dirty pics on a school wall. Oh,,, did I mention that I don’t live there, nor do I live on the moon with rodogo!

To agi, thanks for making my point.  If you are the mouth piece for Henry County…then, well, Henry County has deeper problems.  You need to check what constitues a threat, as your remarks may be perceived as one.  Many thanks…

Last time I checked Rodogo a 15 year old boy was also considered a young man. Regardless of which of the 2 i called him he was univited to the house and he was intoxicated. Never once did I say the “ young man/boy” was a drunk. I also couldn’t careless if his parents are elated or not about what I referred to him as ... he was what he was…. an intoxicated 15 yr. old. If you really need me to clear things up for you so there are no more misunderstandings the boy ... excuse me young man.. showed up uninvited to the house and was not invited into the wrestling match but decided he wanted to become a part of it and he stepped up to the plate himself. Then when he got his ego bruised he decided to run to mommy and complain. Hope that clears up any misunderstandings.

To Hdland Resdnt,  Any other time I would let your comments slide.  I respect your right to express them. You are right, I do not live in that area, nor do I know the parties involved. By the way, I do not live in Iraq, I do not live in D.C., I do not live in Africa, I do not live in Mexico nor do I live with my head in the sand.  We do not live in a nation of isolation.  I am not a hermit.  I do not have a dog in the hunt.  My only concern is fair play and in this day and time, one better keep up with what is happening around them.  Both local and away.
By the way,  I cannot follow the continuity of your thoughts on this matter.  First, you refer to the teen as a man.  Next you called him a 15 year old drunk.  Then, you said he was univited.  Next,  you state that the young men were wrestling in the yard (now the boy is a man again and invited) and that it was all just a misunderstanding.  How did the young boy get invited to the wrestling match when he was uninvited and drunk.  I believe that the best option for a off duty policeman in this case would be to called his parents and see to it that the 15 year old got home in a safe manner.  Not to invite him to a macho wrestling match at 1 a.m.  I know the parents of the teen is elated by you refering to him as a drunk.

I can only relate to this whatever you want to call it, as to our wrestling matches we hold in our neighborhood early in the a.m.  We do not match 70 year olds with 50 year olds as we try to keep the age within two years and within 20 pounds of each other including any and all prosthetics.  And by no way, do we allow alcohol at our matches or minors.  We do welcome any unescorted ladies, no matter the state they are in.

My bottom line is that the truth will doubtfully never be known and eventually it will be hush hush and we will continue to live as we do.

Mr bmoc I think your comment of calling officer Jones a Bad Apple shows much immaturity on your part. I think you will find out that yes, he did complete the police academy. Before judgement is passed, I think we should hear both sides of the story, and thus far only one has been publized. He is innocent, untill proven guilty. I dont think Chief Jones said anything about innocent, only comment was that there were two sides to every story, and that the truth would come out in court, and that his son had legal counsil. Also in the past I dont recall other officers that have gotten into trouble, being addressed as the son of mr so and so. I feel that the media, newspaper, and Sheriff of Henry County owe Chief Jones an apology. He has done nothing wrong , only standing by his son, as any decent father would do. I have always know him to be fair, respectable, and to uphold the law with dignity.  Why was a 15 year old out at one oclock int the morning?  Well lets hear the rest of the STORY——-

Let me start by saying that if you do not know either of the two young men involved or live in the area you know nothing about this situation. First off this 15 year old boy showed up uninvited to the location and 2nd he was highly intoxicated while underage. This was simply a case of young guys wrestling around in the front yard that got blown out of proportion.Keep in mind that Officer Jones was somewhere he was invited and visiting with people of age he WAS NOT hanging out with 15 yr. olds. There was also no intentional “choking” involved. As for Chief Jones he has done nothing but represent our town and police department with the utmost class and dignity. As for what his son does or does not do is out of his control. Nor can he control if reporters want his statement or not. Things always work out for the best and the truth will eventually come out about this.

To “nothing is fair”,  thanks for the invitation to comment again as I knew someone would take your stance and allow an opening for me to join in.  Police officers wear a badge and carry a firearm on their hip.  They are classified as our best.  They have control over our freedom and over life and death.  They should be the best.  And the excuse lack of compensation will not work. Money does not always equate to quality.  The officers take an oath upon joining the force.

A case in point, recently in Dothan, a police officer filed charges that the Chief of Police and the City Attorney attempted to force her to change her testimony in a pending case.  Eventually, it was handed over to the Houston County Sheriff to investigate.  Then, it was sent to the D.A.  It is my understanding that the charges were found “not valid”. and I have heard nothing else. It is hard for a citizen to find information within our government even when we have rights to do so.  Please inform me if I am incorrect.  The officer’s charges did not charge the Chief and the Attorney for stealing her lunch from the unit’s frig, but it was a major charge.  One of the parties had to have lied.  If the charges were found to be invalid, it must mean that the police officer made false charges.  If this was the case, the officer should have been fired from her position.  If the officer would use such tactics against her bosses, what would the officer do toward the average citizen.  I believe the officer did not make false charges.  With no information about the case, I can only rely on the possibilities of the outcome.  “nothing is fair”, the government is my business as well as all of the citizens. “ A foolish faith in any authority is the worst enemy of the truth”, unknown author,  is very true in all aspects of our lives.  Look what happed to Germany under Hilter’s leadership.  Going back to the outcome of the charges, one may assume that the Chief and the Attorney were just testing the officer’s belief in her testimony, but logic would dictate that if that was the case, they would have told the officer afterward and commended on the steadfastness of the officer and that would have been the end of it.  Not the case and WE, AS PART OF THIS COUNTRY SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO KNOW.

To “ezduzitinla”, one question might be,  why is a twenty-two year old police officer hanging out with young teens late at night?

One question I had was, what in the world was a fifteen year old doing out at 1:00 in the morning? Why did he not leave when he was asked to leave? There are always two sides to every story.
