Houston County Sheriff’s investigators charged two people with using golf clubs to beat three other people during an assault on the bank of the Chattahoochee River on Sunday evening.

Capt. Antonio Gonzalez said the dispute started on a sandbar on the river, then turned violent at the Gordon boat landing. Gonzalez said two people were arrested Monday, with more charges likely to follow in the ongoing investigation. Gonzalez cited alcohol as a contributing factor in the reported assaults.

“It’s a major family and friend dispute, and it turns into an assault,” Gonzalez said.

Court records show deputies charged Dusty Renee Long Green, 32, and Nicklus Edwin Green, 34, each with three felony counts of second-degree assault. They were both charged with using a golf club as a deadly weapon to assault two brothers, Brian Keith Johnson and Eddie Dwayne Johnson, along with Rhonda Brown, all of Pansey.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Bill Rafferty said two of the victims were treated and released from Southeast Alabama Medical Center for their injuries.

Both Dusty Green, of East County Road 8, Gordon, and Nicklus Green, of Ben Ivey Road, Webb, were released Monday after they posted a $45,000 bond. If convicted, the Green pair face one to 10 years in prison for each of the class C felony charges.

Gonzalez said the golf club likely just became the weapon of opportunity.

“It’s not the extent of the injury,” Rafferty said. “The charge is based on it being a deadly weapon. Used properly it’s not going to hurt.”

As an average golfer, was the club a fairway wood or was it an iron? I doubt if it was a putter unless maybe, it was one of those long jobs.
