Houston County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported knife assault at an Ashford residence on Monday morning.

Sheriff Andy Hughes said deputies and Ashford police were called to the 200 block of Cosby Road shortly before 10 a.m. for a reported cutting. He said deputies later found a woman had suffered a minor cut to her neck. She was treated on the scene by Ashford Rescue.

Hughes said the assailant ran into the woods behind the woman’s mobile home.

“We do believe this was an isolated incident,” Hughes said.

A Houston County Sheriff’s tracking dog was brought to the scene to help search for the assailant, but he remained at large Monday evening.

Peggy Chason, who lives in a nearby trailer, said her daughter, Sandra Peters, wasn’t cut severely. She said her daughter had only moved into the mobile home about a month ago after a fire destroyed the family home over the summer. When the home burned in August, it was the sixth time it caught fire this year.

Chason said the family did not know the man who came to her daughter’s home. She said the man came there for the second time in a week looking for her 15-year-old granddaughter.

Anyone with information about the assault can call the Houston County Sheriff’s Office at 677-4808.
