Taylor couple pleads guilty to meth distribution
Federal prosecutors said a Taylor couple pleaded guilty Wednesday to the distribution of meth.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Clark Morris said Jason Linwood Slaughter, 29, and Charla Deanna Thomas, 29, both pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute more than 50 grams of meth. Morris said Thomas also pleaded guilty to using a pistol during a drug trafficking crime.
Local authorities originally arrested the couple during a traffic stop on Alabama Highway 52 in Taylor on May 17, 2009. Jason Slaughter’s mother, Patricia Slaughter, the former principal of Honeysuckle Middle School, was also charged with two misdemeanor crimes on the same day, but she does not face any federal charges.
Federal records show police seized a .22-caliber pistol, 6 ounces of meth, about $2,200 in cash, a police scanner and electronic scales during the arrest, which happened near Slaughter’s home on Alabama Highway 52. Records also show both Slaughter and Thomas admitted they had been buying about 8 ounces of meth every day and selling it in smaller quantities.
Police also seized an “Uzi” type pistol, along with several other guns from the home Slaughter lived in with his mother.
