Teen charged in football field vandalism released from jail
OZARK - A teen charged with vandalizing Dale County High School’s football field earlier this month and placed under no bond was released from the Dale County Jail on Thursday.
Court records did not indicate why 18-year-old Douglas Quincey of Midland City was released, although an application for Quincey to enter into the Dale County Drug Court was submitted last week.
According to previous reports, Dale County’s Drug Court is a modern, weekly judicial program that allows nonviolent drug offenders to go through a case-management plan including treatment and then, after at least 15 months of recovery, have the drug case dismissed.
Quincey had been in the Dale County Jail since earlier this month when he, along with a juvenile who authorities said recklessly drove a pickup truck over the high school’s football field on Aug. 1, was charged with first-degree criminal mischief and second-degree criminal trespass.
Alcohol may have also been involved, authorities said.
Dale County District Attorney Kirke Adams said earlier that there were multiple factors contributing to Quincey receiving no bond.
The incident occurred the day Dale County High School head football Coach Todd Horne was buried. He died from injuries sustained in a traffic accident a few days before.
Some of the Quincey family apologized to Horne’s family and to school officials for the younger Quincey’s actions, Douglas Quincey Sr. said.
