Texas duo jailed in 380 pound marijuana bust
Two Texas men remain behind bars three days after Florida authorities seized nearly 400 pounds of marijuana from the charter bus the men were traveling in along Interstate 10.
A statement from the Florida Department of Transportation said officers arrested the bus driver, Jesus Alejandro Flores, of Uvalde, Texas, and Antonio Garcia Jr., of Carrizo Springs, Texas, and charged them each with trafficking marijuana.
Conflicting information the two men gave officers during a conversation led officers to search the bus with the help of a K-9. The K-9 alerted to the passenger side of the bus, giving officers probable cause to search the vehicle.
Officers Chris Porter and Jonathan Cook with the Florida Office of Motor Carrier Compliance and Special Operation Team found 380 pounds of marijuana separated into 67 bundles, hidden inside a compartment in the fuel tank of the bus. The marijuana had an estimated street value of about $350,000, and was wrapped in cellophane.
Both Flores and Garcia were taken to the Jackson County Jail in Florida. Officers arrested the men Saturday night around 8 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of traffic of I-10 while they attempted to repair a flat tire on the bus.
According to the Department of Transportation statement, members of the Florida Highway Patrol contraband interdiction program assisted in the investigation.
Robert Hill, a spokesperson with the Jackson County Jail in Florida, said both were being held on a $100,000 bond. Hill said Flores is 27 years old and Garcia is 31 years old.

I know there is a lot of hate here but as bad as it is progress is being made. Thankfully it’s not just “my fight” even Law Enforcement has an organization that opposes the drug war and drug prohibition: Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, www.leap.cc .
Even if I was to die in this fight I would die fighting and fighting on the side that is right and trying to preserve Constitutional rights rather than the side that is destroying them like no other group in US history.
I know they could find out who I am but there are 10s of millions in the US alone speaking out against the drug war, they can’t quiet everyone any more. Drug warriors have made far too many mistakes and told far too many lies and done far too much astronomical damage to ever redeem their well meaning but harmful policy.
“The best way to get a bad law repealed is to enforce it strictly.“ Abraham Lincoln
I wish you the best too!
Well jsknow, I will not be living in the south much longer, and to be honest, I am done caring about these people. I have lived all over this country, and I know that there are places much more worthy of my concern…most of these people have done nothing but hate me and my kind(d.a.m.n. yankee’s who like Black people and aren’t churchy)...I am just gonna leave this place to ‘em.
You just be careful in this fight of yours. “Law enforcement” is gonna do everything they can to destroy you and your message. If we were anyplace else in the country I would be a lot more encouraging to you, but not here. I wish you the best, but I caution you very strongly.
Remember, they can find out who you are just from this website, and they can HURT you.
Good luck to you, friend.
patriot.gyrl65,
I live in the south too and I know it’s a tough battle but people down here aren’t unlike people anywhere else, once they have the honest truth it sinks in. Don’t give up, be vocal and speak out every time you have the chance. That’s one of the wonderful things about the internet, we now have a chance to use the right to free speech in a very public way. I hope you and the other supportive commenter’s will use this wonderful opportunity to inform the public about the DRUG WAR truth OFTEN.
Reefer madness scare tactics and other untruthful drug war propaganda can’t EXIST in the light of TRUTH.
As far as what the Bible says, there is an organization of Bible believers that opposes the drug war: Interfaith Drug Policy Initiative: http://idpi.us/compassion/ I posted one of their videos on the JSK website. You can watch it by clicking “Web Links” in the “site map”. The title is: “Clergy Against The War On Drugs Part II”.
I very much believe the Bible and I posted some interesting verses on the JSK site, you can read them by clicking “Scripture” in the site map. It would do a lot of good for Bible believers to learn what it really says instead of taking the word of often well meaning but much harm doing Church leaders that buy into drug war propaganda.
Thanks for the compliment about the my website. I use the NORML website often. I participate with them and all the other drug policy reform sites I posted in a previous comment.
Please don’t give up about legalization! It will happen, provided those that know the truth speak out and educate as many voters as we can. The facts are that drug policy reformers have both the legal and moral high ground on the issue of drug prohibition. As you can see I welcome talking to people about this issue, ESPECIALLY REGISTERED VOTERS WITH OPPOSING VIEWS ON THE DRUG WAR. NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY I CAN PROVE BEYOND ANY SHADOW OF A DOUBT THAT DRUG WAR PROHIBITION IS FAR WORSE FOR EVERYONE, WHETHER THEY USE DRUGS OR NOT. Even before talking to them, I ALREADY KNOW THAT 80% OF THOSE I TALK TO WILL FAVOR DRUG POLICY REFORM ONCE THEY HAVE THE FACTS.
“It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people’s minds.“ Samuel Adams
jsknow, you are wasting your time here.
Folks down here in the Dirty South don’t wanna hear the truth.
I guess somewhere in the Bible it must say something about folks not smoking weed. Oh wait, actually the quote is something about “...all herbs to man’s use”...
Great website’s though.
NORML has a good site as well.
But legalization will never happen down here. Don’t waste your time on these people.
BMOC,
Inevitably when anyone speaks out against any law, no matter how bad that law is, someone always says “but it’s illegal” to break the law. The fact is, the drug war and drug prohibition are ILLEGAL. When alcohol was prohibited, that required an amendment to the Constitution to be legal. There has been no such amendment with drug prohibition.
Drug warriors are continuously sweeping the laws of this country under the rug and trying to convince the citizens of this country that we are not capable of making our own decisions about what we choose to put in our own bodies. That’s the same tactic that was used on the American Indians, “you’re not smart enough to govern yourselves, you need the “Great Father in Washington” to tell you what’s best for you”. We all know how well that turned out for the native Americans. The drug war is no different. It is a hoax, a smokescreen, designed to make everyone think the drug war prohibitionists are doing something good for America and Americans while in fact they are taking away Constitutional rights and freedoms like no other policy in the history of this country!
If you can show me ANYTHING that the drug war has accomplished when it comes to reducing drug related death, disease, crime and drug use that has significantly improved any drug related area over a long period of time I’d appreciate you telling me what it is.
Most drugs are made from weeds that without prohibition would be of far less financial value. According to a fairly recent documentary by Walter Cronkite, all the plants needed to supply an entire year’s worth of the heroin consumed in the US could be grown on about 50 square miles almost anywhere on earth and the entire year’s worth of heroin could be transported in a single cargo plane. Doesn’t it make more sense to have doctors treat the addicts and rational laws to deal with drug consumption and the related harms like drunk/intoxicated driving than to try and stop heroin or any other drug’s production? It has to because law enforcement has only been able to prevent the production or transportation of about 10% of the heroin and all other illegal drugs according to their own estimates.
True drug addiction of all types should be handled as a medical problem not a criminal problem. Drug use should not automatically be considered abuse or addiction. If a person kills or drives when they are intoxicated or breaks any legitimate law, we already have legitimate laws on the books to deal with those problems and if a real danger to society is recognized like it was with drunk driving, then those laws certainly should and can be rationally adjusted accordingly. Trying to lock up every drug user or eradicate every plant that produces illegal drugs from planet earth are completely unattainable irrational goals. We simply cannot afford to lock up every drug user and even if we could the vast majority go back to using drugs when they are released. Some countries even went so far as to execute drug users and even that has not succeeded in accomplishing a “drug free” country. At some point we have to realize that a certain percentage of people are always going to use drugs and implement policy that minimizes the harms without devastating society.
Because of our prohibition policy bad laws have been put on the books that make it illegal for IV drug users to obtain clean needles. This results in AIDS and hepatitis being spread unnecessarily into our non drug using society on a huge scale.
Take a look at the way the Swiss have dealt with their heroin problem. You can watch a lot about this in the video titled “Jack Cole Interview” on the Just Say Know website (link below). In Switzerland they set up government clinics where heroin addicts can go and get pharmaceutical grade heroin. If you don’t have the money to pay for the drug it’s free. That instantly put every illegal heroin dealer in that country out of business… they can’t compete with free. Anyone that wants heroin can go into a government clinic up to 3 times a day and inject it. There are medical personnel on hand and anyone that wants to kick their habit is given counseling and help toward that goal. The results are that there has not been a single heroin overdose there in more than 13 years. Switzerland has the lowest AIDS and Hepatitis infection in all of Europe. Crime fell by 60% because no one is stealing or prostituting their self to pay for their heroin and after a 10 year study, they documented that there has been an 82% decline in new heroin users. Please tell me why our drug war seems like better policy than that. No one went to jail and no one got killed. This program is far less expensive than what we are doing and far less harmful.
It’s way past time for rational drug policy that has PROVEN to get far better results than our drug war.
The goals of the drug war are to reduce drug related death, disease, crime and drug use. It has accomplished NONE of those goals after almost 100 years of prohibition policy, over 1 trillion tax dollars wasted, ever tougher criminal penalties, arresting millions of Americans, removing an ever increasing list of Constitutional rights and all the other irrational effort and wasted resources that have been put into this failed harmful unproductive policy.
We have laws on the books that are causing a nonviolent US citizen to be arrested every 17 seconds on drug charges. Those laws have been in effect for almost 100 years and the goals of those laws are not being accomplished AT ALL. It’s time for the voters to say enough is enough and support long term proven methods of dealing with drug use and addiction in an effective rational manner.
The drug war is a real war and it is an unnecessarily harmful, completely unwinnable, and wasteful war. It is in fact a war against a certain large percentage of our own population that chooses to different degrees and with a wide range or results, to put a wide variety of different substances in their body and for a wide variety of reasons. It’s being fought in our communities with real guns, military styled raids against nonviolent citizens, teargas, dogs and virtually every other tool of war available.
Despite the drug war and all the money and efforts that have been put into it, drugs today are more potent, more readily available and often less expensive than they were in 1971 when Richard Nixon coined the phrase “war on drugs” and started this illegal war against American citizens. The U.S. had 200,000 prisoners in the 1970s, it currently has over 2.3 million, making it the largest incarcerator in world history. The U.S. accounts for 5 percent of the world’s population and 25 percent of its prison population.
Right now we are installing 900 new prison beds and hiring 150 new correction officers every 2 weeks. Here in the “land of the free” for the first time in history, more than one of every 100 adults is in jail or prison. 2,319,258 Americans were incarcerated at the start of 2008. The United States now incarcerates more people than any other nation on earth, more than even far more populous communist China. Each prisoner costs the taxpayers an average of about $35,000.00 per year to incarcerate. Over half of our federal prisoners are serving time for a drug offense. Largely because of the drug war, arresting Americans is becoming big business. We now have companies attempting to privatize our penal systems. These companies are huge supporters of drug prohibition and any other laws that cause Americans to be incarcerated. The more Americans behind bars, the more money they get from the government.
Visit the JSK website! Read “Marijuana Facts The Government Does Not Want You To Know” and “Why is Marijuana Illegal” ! Watch the video that auto-starts when the site first loads and the video to the right of that one and then get back to me about what is legal and what is not!
Unless you are living isolated from the world, you know millions of Americans are breaking not only the marijuana laws but every other drug prohibition law on a huge scale. Who is profiting from this? Criminals, gangsters and terrorists BOTH INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OUR GOVERNMENT.
The only way to end the crime, corruption waste and other astronomical harms of the drug war is to LEGALIZE ALL DRUGS, LEGALIZE THEM AND REGULATE THEM RATIONALLY ACCORDING TO THE REAL DANGER EACH DRUG PRESENTS TO SOCIETY, FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS. THAT WILL INSTANTLY PUT EVERY ILLEGAL DRUG DEALER OUT OF BUSINESS .
I’m pretty sure it was illegal to throw tea in the Boston harbor too but once the citizens got enough of being oppressed that’s exactly what they did.

As long as I have breath in my body and these drug laws that are ruining this country and SHREDDING OUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS remain on the books, I will speak out against them.
The simple fact is that Marijuana is illegal. We cannot choose to ignore any law just because we do not agree with it.
james,
I get frustrated sometimes too but I take great satisfaction every time I educate another voter.
10 years ago it was almost impossible to get anyone to consider legalizing any drugs for recreational use other than tobacco and alcohol… great progress is being made!
I try to spread the word and educate people to the facts. Most people are ignorant sheep and cant see the forest for the trees. They believe everything the government and media tells them . Most are happy as long as they have a full belly and a few luxuries in life. People as you and i are considered anti american because we can see past the BS . I wonder what these sheep will do when all their rights are stripped away and the government comes in one day and tells them you do as i say do or you die . Course if you think about it , its almost that bad right now. They throw us a few bones to hold back a revolution.
James,
There are 2 documentary movies about government run drug dealing (and covert wars) on the Just Say Know website. The first one auto-starts when the home page loads and the second is to the left of the first one.
You are exactly right, drug prohibition is funding criminal activity both inside and outside our government. THAT’S WHY “WE THE PEOPLE” HAVE TO BE RELENTLESS and educate the voters.
80% of voters is a strong majority and that’s the percentage that agrees we need to legalize and regulate drugs rather than prohibit them after they have the honest facts about the drug war and how much harm drug prohibition is actually causing.
Legal drug regulation takes the ILLEGAL drug trade away from criminals gangsters and terrorists. I hope you’re spreading the word, you seem to be well up on the facts.
Marijuana regulation is making a lot of headway right now and since marijuana accounts for roughly HALF of ALL the illegal drug trade, taking half the illegal drug trade away from criminals, gangsters and terrorists will do a huge amount of good!

jsknow, the law has no intentions of stopping drugs. Its their cash cow. Few people even know the scope of the drug business. Even george hw bush was(is) a drug dealer in a way. When he was head of the cia he was responsible for flying in tons of drugs to mena arkansas. He run the cover operation for barry seal to fly in the drugs. The cia distributed the drugs and funnelled the money to the contra rebels thru oliver north to overthrow the government there. They also flew m-16 (223) ammo by the plane loads out of rucker to Nicaragua .
If they did eliminate drugs , could you imagine how many people would be out of a job, all the way from the beat cop up the ladder. They cant financially stop drugs. Its to large a part of this countries economic foundation.
If you want to read more about what i said above then i’ll send you more info on it.
